32" Sony Wega - Video Card Choice?
« on: May 06, 2013, 09:05:02 am »
Hello all, new to the forum but have been reading posts for weeks. I'm building my first cabinet and I got a Sony Wega KV-32FS320 on craigslist last week. My first issue was the width of it, around 35.5". The average interior doorway is 32" so I had to decase it and build a new chassis for it, all told my arcade cabinet is going to be about 31.5" so I'll be able to squeeze through.

My second issue is getting this thing hooked up to a computer, I've read a lot of stuff on here about purchasing a $100-150 VGA-Component converter but that ain't gonna happen. I'd like to know what the best video card for use with component output able to match native resolution. I'm a novice so please forgive any mistakes I make, I've read a lot of pro advice on here and it looks like I'll need to get Soft-15khz and a compatible card with DVI-I out and a $5 converter from monoprice. If that's wrong please let me know, I'm looking for the best quality picture.

I know this topic has been covered to some extent but I haven't seen specific cards and adapters recommended (Radeon 98xx?) and a lot of the posts are older, technology and prices ever changing I thought I'd get a fresh perspective on this, thanks!

I've been reading more and it seems that my best bet is to get a Radeon HD4890 video card for use with soft15khz, which leads me to a bunch of quetsions:

First off am I correct? Lots of the posts I read were 2 years old..

How well will this perform with my TV? I don't know its possible resolutions

What do I need to connect the two? Can I use an HDMI->Component cable? I really want to bypass having to purchase a transcoder
