Arcade monitor to computer?

How can I get my SI 727R-DS monitor to work with my computer?

Would it be that simple just to get one of those Pc to Jamma conversion board?
Or do I really need to shell out some $$ for a VGA card and amp board connector?
Thoughts? Experiences with either way?

Bottom line is there are two options:

1) Get an ArcadeVGA and breakout cable from ultimarc.com (simplest, but more expensive)
2) Use a tool such as CRT_Emu_Driver or Soft15khz  (and a supported video card) to get low resolutions and hack your own VGA cable and connect it up. (cheap but you need to be comfortable with software configuration and hacking a cable).

As a veteran of ArcadeVGAs and j-Pacs, I would recommend them highly. 

They are indeed the more expensive solution, and you'll need to tweak MAME a bit for some games, but for ease it is the best solution and you get proper arcade modes.

If you're a person that is comfy cutting and splicing cables, and dorking around with drivers then the soft15khz solution would be what you'd want.

Looks like I'll eventually pick up the Arcade card. Now my question is do I need the J-pac or just the breakout amp cable with that vid card?

Then any video card will do.  The ArcadeVGA & j-pac are for connecting a PC to an existing JAMMA cabinet w/arcade monitor.  If you're just connecting to a PC monitor from a PC then you need nothing special.

So let me start over I have an arcade monitor an old Dell PC and a Classic SLIKSTICK control panel with an ipac. I just want to hook up the arcade monitor to the PC.

The cable is easily made if you have a multimeter or continuity tester.  I believe there's a guy somewhere on this board selling them for $2 or something.

SNAPS! I was hoping you would say that all I need was a vga adapter cable. Oh well probably best anyways to get the ArcadeVGA card.

Well, you CAN if you use Soft15khz with a supported card, but I don't know what card you have now or if it is supported.  I tried 3 cards in two PCs and none of them worked with soft15khz.

I do have experience with ArcadeVGA and it just works.  Once in a while you'll come across a game that clearly isn't using the proper video mode, but a quick MAME config edit always fixed it.
