How to prep for printing?
« on: April 18, 2013, 11:44:03 pm »

Hey guys. I think I might have jump the gun here. I wanted to work on some artwork yesterday and so I did. I gutted out a Wonderboy cab (I don't think it was original)
After searching for about 2 hours I couldn't any information on this cab. The shape, the dimensions or anything. I saw a few people had listed a "atari cabs" photo with silhouettes of cabs. I found one that looked similar, altered it to look more like mine and I started to do my art work. (photo 2) I grabbed the rough height and width from my cab and I just entered the inches into photoshop and worked on it. I am not finished yet but I don't even know if this is going to work out for printing. As you can see I am close to the edges on the cab. I am wondering how can I get these more accurate so that my printing wont be costing me more money and pain. Is there a way I can translate measurements in photoshop? How do I measure the cab if I can't find the shape online of it?

If you have the cab, why not just measure it yourself?  You'd probably need to get a suitably large sheet of paper, lay the cab on its side and then trace the outline.  Then measure and mark off the various angles and dimensions.  Then you should be able to translate that into Photoshop.

Thanks for the reply.    I'm confident of my measurement skills.  I just don't know have to Input that into photoshop and I don't know how to do the angles.   I imagine getting the max height and width ( which I have done) but the angles Are he issue and translating that into photoshop is the problem.

I echo what has already been proposed, trace it and take measurements. Extend the lines past the curves using a ruler to create an intersect. Use a compass to find the angle. You can get very specific with the curve in photoshop but personally, I would leave the access and extend the art to these regions. When you order the art you apply and trim the excess.

Normally, I would want to get a perfect set of measurements including the curvature but a steady hand with the exacto knife can get you the results you are looking for.

Good luck!

just make a 300 dpi file in PS and add guidelines. add the meusurement add the vertical or horizontaal guideline so you will get a trace grid
