Donkey Kong Jr Arcade DJR1-UP model? Single Line Down screen
« on: April 03, 2013, 08:45:58 pm »
I just bought this DK Jr. arcade and found it has an issue with the monitor. When turned on it only displays a single line from top to bottom. The game works as you can hear it but cant see it. When attempting to adjust the V Hold and V Size I noticed the board and 2 front solder points that hold the knob are broken. I have built a few PC based arcades with VGA monitors but dont have a whole lot of experence with these... Not sure if the V Hold knob would affect the screen or if it needs more work... Any help would be greatly appreciated... Pictures Included... Thanks

That's vertical collapse.

first off make sure the service switch on the monitor board is in the normal position, try flipping it the other way and see if it fixes it

I just reread your post and saw the bit about the broken pot.
that needs to be fixed.

your best bet is to replace at least the broken pot, recap it and replace the b+ pot because it will most likely break on you when you go to adjust the b+ to 108vdc.

I guess in the mean time, you can try soldering the broken pot but the monitor will definitely benefit from a full service.

check out www.therealbobroberts.net for the parts.

If you do choose to pull the monitor and repair it, DO NOT plug it into a regular outlet only plug it into the box that it is currently plugged into at the bottom of the cabinet.

Thanks for the input... I havent tried the service switch yet... I think im going to get out there this weekend and mess around with it... I might try soldering the pot just to see if it fixes it. But i will be definitly be ordering a replacement.... I was also thinking of recaping it too, I have a friend who has done a few that can help me but do you know what model monitor this is and what cap kit i would need.  also do you know where i can get a diagram or schematic of the video boards for the whole cab. I'm thinking of gutting it to clean it out and refurb and repaint the whole cab inside and out.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

that monitor is a Sanyo 20-ez

bob roberts has the cap kits for them.
again I'd also suggest you change the b+ pot. its a small metal pot on the main board. after doing the cap kit, this needs to be adjusted for 108vdc and its kind of a flimsy pot that easily breaks.

as far as adjusting the b+ voltage, theres a lot of info online about it.

The cap kit for that monitor typically comes with an audio board kit also.
The audio board is on the monitor.

You can choose to install if you want.
Usually the sign that you need it is a noises like him present on the speaker
