Suzo Happ/Vision Pro LCD Arcade monitors
« on: February 10, 2013, 08:56:28 pm »
Hi there to all forum users,

As a new guy to the scene of MAME and cabinet building I have some burning questions and queries which I hope some of you (given your experience and expertise) will be able to help me with.

My intention is to build two machines, the first being a bartop and second being an upright 2 player. I am aware that I can use standard LCD PC Monitors but I'm wanting to build the best cabinets possible and I'm not wanting the extra size and hassle of a genuine CRT type arcade monitor.

My technical knowledge regarding monitors is very minimal so if you do respond to my post please bare this in mind!

Before I commit to buying the monitors I have a few queries about the following models:

Suzo Happ/vision Pro 19" LCD (model no 49-2604-10) for the bartop

Vision Pro 26" LCD (model no 49-2861-10) for the upright

The following questions relate to both monitors and any help regardless of how little will be greatly appreciated. I apologise in advance for using simple terminology but hopefully others will benefit from this topic.

Can these monitors be connected to a standard PC power supply or do they require a special power source?

2) is it possible to connect monitors to a modern high performance PC graphics card?

3) will the monitors be able to display all games/emulators and even modern day high resolution PC games?

4) what's the advantages / disadvantages of using these monitors over a standard PC LCD monitor?

That's all the questions I have for now but I'm sure there will be more! I hope some of you can advise me, apologies if this topic or similar has been tackled before.

Many thanks to everyone for reading, look forward to any responses.

Yes, it is standard 12V power. Just make sure your PSU can handle the extra wattage needed.

The other three questions is more or less answered in the same way.
A LCD screen is a LCD screen, however this comes in a different form factor and have some additional inputs.
The 19” model has a 1280*1024 panel, and have all the pros and cons of a similar “PC monitor”.

The real advantages is that the form factor (open frame etc), and the internal interface for CGA & EGA signals (that normally would require an additional converter). The latter option isn’t really any advantage if you are using a PC as the source, since then it is better to do the caling in the software I guess, so the monitor gets it native resolution.

My opinion is that there’s no real advantage that justifies the price compared to a standard PC monitor, if you are going for a MAME PC.
Maybe there the only reason would be that 4:3 monitors are hard to find these days…
But of course, this is only my humble opinion. I’m sure there are others with different opinions  ;D
Building, collecting and playing arcade machines :)

- Matsadona,

Thank you for your reply albeit it took me a long time to say thanks!

You have a valid point, always good to get people's opinions before forking out on equipment which isn't going to make much difference.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Cheers. 😀

If you are open to it I will give you another option...
Our Nieman Video Displays (NVD) LCD line up is extremely versatile and was developed for this market. Here are a few points:
-Industrial open frame design for easy install
- depending on the opening size we will provide you with a custom metal bezel that the LCD mounts to. The bezel then can be simply placed on the same rails that hold the glass. If the dimensions work out the bezel is no charge.
- Comes with everything you need, power supply, power cord etc.. none of these "Batteries not included"
- The LCD's A/D has been custom programmed to accept all the native resolutions as well as higher such as WXGA etc. no upscaler etc.
- The panels have been spec'd in for the best Brightness, contrast, response time etc.
- We stock replacement boards in the rare event of a failure, easy board swap, not scrap.

If interested contact me direct with a ship to address so I can get a freight quote... it is the freight that will some times kill us, but I wil do my best.
I ask direct as I do not always check for Pm's

Best of luck

Hi Rick, I've had a look at your website, I'm keeping my options open at the moment but I will certainly keep you in mind.

Out of interest, do you ship to the UK with supplied British standard plugs?

Cheers.
