Building my own Big Buck hunter Safari
« on: February 02, 2013, 03:35:42 am »
I would like to Create / Build my own Buck hunter Safari arcade machine as to purchase a machine in Australia is around $4000 +
so im asking what parts are needed as i can purchase any kind of New TV screen so i would like to make a slim line unit to mount on a wall.
So its more the Mother board and gun set up i need information on,
EBAY has items for sale so looks like parts are available.
Do the guns use sensors or is in the hand piece.

If any one has done this info would be  great,

i like 42in for newer games. not sure on the pc setup for that game but i would say any decent i3 could handle it. far as guns go get you some plastic shotguns and the aimtrak kits from ultimarc. ultimarc uses a sensor simular to the wii. but it is detected as a mouse by the pc so you can use it like one. on my showcase cab ill be using a set of em hear great things bout em.

Just to make sure – you are aiming for the original hardware but in a cabinet built by yourself?
Not sure if there are newer versions but I think that game is originally based on a CRT screen. And if so the gun sensors should be optic and can’t be used on a modern plasma or LCD screen.
If it would be a positional gun (like Operation Wolf or Terminator 2) that would be fine.

If you are going for PC emulation the Ultimarc Aimtrack guns can be used on any type of screen.

Yeah, you might be able to pick up the hardware on ebay pretty decent, then build your own cab. All the BBH cabs I've seen are SXGA CRTs. And as it's still earning money, I don't think any versions of it are in MAME.

was just thinking if there is a good plugandplay version of big buck i know i have seen em. course at 4k for a dedicated im sure you could buy the board and build a cab for under 1k. and still be able to play mame games with the flip of a switch.

a machine in Australia is around $4000 +

a machine for anybody is 5000/6000. you paying for the ability to make money off it.

that said, the hardware is easy to come by, it's the guns, I/O board, and the software dongle that are going to hang you up. the guns required for use with a non-crt screen (ie deluxe cabinet) are about 500 each. regular optical guns will not work on a flatscreen.

your best bet is going to be hacking up a wii and controllers, but then you just have a hacked up wii.

save your pennies and buy a buck hunter when one comes up for sale.
