Dimensions Question
« on: March 05, 2013, 05:45:34 pm »
I hope i'm posting to the right board, i'm new here.
I got an xarcade tankstick for Christmas, and i'm constructing a stand for it.
What is the average height (from the ground) for arcade sticks?
We don't have any arcades around me, and i would like it to feel just right...
I know a lot of cabs are different, but i'm talking a modern fighting game cab.
Thank you for any help.

Not sure of an actual average, but I would wager around 3 feet.  I know in the Project Arcade book, the height from the base to the bottom of the control panel box is listed at 33 inches.  And then it's probably another 3-4 inches or so to the top of the CP.

But rather than picking a number based on other arcade cabinets, I'd build something that works for you.  After all, if you're primarily using it, you should make something that is comfortable for yourself.

+1 on adjust the height to you.

Take a small table and add/subtract books stacked under the tankstick until you find the perfect height.

If possible set it up so you can play your favorite game on it for a while -- just to be thorough.   ;D

Take a look at my build, I have a blueprint of my cab drawn to scale on graph paper using inches.  I tried to find an average of what I found on these forums for all relevant heights and angles.  I used a 5degree slope for the control panel, and a 15degree angle for the LCD.  The top of the back of the CP is 39 inches off the ground.  I am 5' 10" (right in the middle of the bell-shaped curve for the height of a USA male).

The dimensions I chose are perfectly matched to my dimensions.  If you are taller/shorter, adjust the CP height by the same amount.  If you have questions, PM me, I spent a boat load of time researching answers to every possible measurement question you could think of.
