D9200 Out of Range Error
« on: November 03, 2003, 01:44:46 pm »
I get the message "Out of Range" on my Wells Gardner D9200 when I try to start up a large number of games (1941 and 1942, for example).  Any idea what it is complaining about?  Resolution?

My setup:
S3 Virge video adapter set to 640x480 in Windows
Windows 2000 Professional
Wells Gardner D9200
MAMEWah
MAMEPP

Out of range means that your trying to run a Resolution that the monitor can not run i.e 1024x1280.

you need to change the resolution setting in MAME from auto to 640x480

I ran into the same problem when I was using a Geforce3 card -- even with limiting the max resolution to 640x480 and the max refresh rate 60hz (using RefreshForce), some resolutions choked (such as 512x484, I think that's it) and would give me an Out of Range Error.

I'm now running an ArcadeVGA card, and no more out of range situations. Another option is to try and use AdvanceMAME, but it's a challenge to set up correctly.

Thanks for the replies.  I didn't get a chance to work on it yesterday, but I will try forcing 640 x 480 first.  I've been looking for an excuse to buy the ArcadeVGA.  Maybe this is it...
