4 player upright plans help
« on: June 30, 2013, 06:39:06 pm »
Hey guys I'm new to the arcade building industry. Now recently my mate and I have to decided to build our own arcade cab. I've bought and read John st Clair's "Project Arcade 2nd Edition" book. I have most of the know how but I'm stumped on which plans to choose because our goal is to create a 4 player cab with 7 buttons for each player. In the book it recommends to use Ultimate Arcade 2 plans, which are great but the woodwork is too advanced for us, and vice versa with the assembly etc. I really like the "lucid's arcade flashback" plans but they are only 2 player. Could someone please recommend me some plans as simple as lucid's but with a 4 player 7 button control panel?

Thanks :)

Depending on what emulators you want to use 4 player 7 button cp will not support any MAME games and not required for most other emulators.   What do you want to play that requires the 7 buttons for each player?

Well I'm planning on using a variety of emulators (N64, Playstation) and maybe even PC games so I really wanna have 7 button controls for each player

Before building it, play some of those console emulated games on your 7 button arcade controls and see if you still want to do that afterwards.

If I were going to ever build a 4-player cab, I would model it after the TMNT/NBA Jam style cab, with the correct amount of buttons. You might be able to squeeze more buttons on to that layout if you made the CP a bit bigger.

I second the motion of TMNT. It is a simple cabinet to build and not overbuilt like so many of the custom 4 player designs seem to be. It has enough room to expand the number of buttons, however you won't need more than 6 for player 1 and 2 and more than 4 for player 3 and 4.

The Genesis was the last console that had games that generally played well with arcade controls. The Snes and everything newer has shoulder buttons that often have a directional effect in the game and that translates terribly to arcade controls, which is why the arcade version of the SNES (The Super System) had gamepads on the control panel.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I'm in total agreement with Paige here.

I used lusid plans for my home built, I just modded the panel for 4 players. Works a treat, but I don't have 7 buttons, I have players 1 and 2 with both 6 buttons, and four buttons for the other two
