Slowdown of Cave shmups on same class hardware
« on: November 09, 2012, 12:49:27 pm »
Hello!

I'm a bit confused. I have two systems - my notebook and arcade cab. Notebook runs on Core2Duo P8400 2.26 GHz, 2Gb RAM, Win7 x86,
Arcade runs on Intel Atom D2700 2.13 GHz, 4Gb RAM, Win7 x86 (Intel D2700MUD Motherboard with integrated CPU). Some games i need runs perfectly on notebook, but have some sound issues on Atom hardware - very annoying sound bugs and sound slowdown. These games are Dodonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou, Ketsui and Espgaluda.

What am i doing wrong? These hardware are almost the same (but i think atom is slightly faster than old Core2Duo). What can you recommend to search?

Please help, someone!

Thanks!

A core 2 duo is much faster than an atom, I'd guess around 4x faster at similar clock speeds.

yep, these are no way in the 'same class hardware' category.

nothing to do with number of cores either, the c2d is just clock-for-clock a far better CPU, the atom is designed for low-cost, low-power usage, not performance.

Damn, i'm so lame )-:
What can you say about low-cost LGA1155 Celerons like G440 or G460? Can they run subj games withoul slowdowns?

Have you tried reducing sound sample rate? I had slowdowns when i played Qix (when the alarming sound of the red sparkle turnes blue) the game lagged. So i reduced the sound sample rate to 22050, default is 44100 or 48000 (dont remember). It all went smooth after that.

Unfortunately, that didn't work )-:

Are you able to install 64bit Windows instead of 32bit? Check your processor first to make sure it'll work. 64 bit will make a difference paired with 64bit mame

Also make sure you are using the "slow poke" build. It'll create some graphical errors if used on a slow processor but is much faster than the last official build which supported SH3.

I've found I get good speeds on an E8400 C2D on xp64 (shelled to a frontend).
