Recent ebay purchases

I have had some pretty good luck this week on the local ebay scene.

A nice looking semi-working pinball machine with a buy it now of $150. That one I will be picking up tommorrow. The coolest thing about it is that it is almost the exact opposite of my other pin. (My other pin is a standard sized, dual playfield, ramp based, no multiball, no pop bumpers, while this one is a widebody, single playfield, multiball, target based, with pop bumpers).

I originally bid on this Super Strike Bowling for myself. I put in $100 and eventually got outbid, I asked my friend Dave if he wanted to go higher on it, he said yes, so I raised my bid so he could get it. It looks like a pretty cool game, and I will get to play it a lot, since Dave lives in the next building.

And finally, the one that will be of the most interest to BYOAC members. A Dynamo Tournament Solitaire for $52. I know it sounds kind of blah, but it is a PC based game, the screen is VGA, the trackball is either serial or Ps/2 (depends on the exact model, and production date I believe), and the other buttons/coin door/etc all interface to the computer. So it is basically a pre-built trackball Mame cabinet. Heck, if it is a newer model then it might even have a half decent computer in it (they made these things for like the entire 1990s).

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Hee hee, I just realized something. Dynamo was the number one manufacturer of generic cabinets, but I ended up buying pretty much the only dedicated Dynamo title in existance.  ;D

Where do you put all this stuff?

Ok, in the living room.

Left to right.

Kangaroo, Crystal Castles, Victory pinball, Force II pinball.

Computer room.

Left to right.

Pong project cabinet, Artic Mini (now labeled Galaga), Battlezone, Amazing Maze. There is also a Pachinko sitting in the window.

Bedroom.

Space Firebird mini. The Solitaire Mini is going to go right next to this one.

Kitchen.

Time Pilot cocktail.

The living room could still hold several more games. Bedroom still has room to add one more small mini as well. The computer room could also still hold quite a few more.

But, I am not going to fill the entire place. I hope to meet a nice conservative girl and get married in the next 1-4 years, and it would be stupid to get too many more games, when I am going to have to cut down then. I am nearly done now. Nothing else is going in the living room or the kitchen. Only thing I would add to the bedroom connection is another small mini. The computer room is going to get two more uprights. One more on the main row, and one to the left of the computer desk (there is a perfect game sized spot between the desk and the wall).

Right now I like my games spread out. But I want to keep the total number down low enough where I can cram almost ALL of them in the gameroom once I get married. The main reason I spread them out for now is that I have a largish (for an apartment) living room, but that my desk looked terrible there, so I put my desk in the game room, and moved a few games into the living room.

BTW. Picked up the pin earlier this evening.

Overall it is in pretty nice condition. The backglass is less than perfect (2 long scratches and a bit of flaking near one of the edges), but it still looks great.

The playfield is in great condition overall. It has one tiny wear spot near a ball kickout, and some heavier wear in the pop bumper area. The rest of the playfield is pretty much flawless. Overall this playfield is in better condition than half the pins I play on location.

The cabinet body is in excellent condition, while the backbox is decent, but not perfect. Legs are nice and shiny, I polished one of them already and it came out like a mirror.

A few more notes on playfield items. Nothing is broken, nothing is even cracked. All the rubbers need replacing though, and I believe 2 of the pop bumper caps and a few of the drop targets may be incorrect.

Now onto the actual operation on the thing.

It turns on fine, and attract mode works perfectly. The drop targets do not reset when the machine is turned on though, nor when a game is started.

When you actually start a game it works for about a half second. It kicks out the ball, but for that half second 3 of the 4 flippers work, the pop bumpers work, and all the other coil operated stuff works, except for one slingshot.

One coil was disconnected when I got the machine (one for a slingshot on the lower playfield). After I hooked it back up and turned it on, I found that it hummed like a beast all the time, but still did not work. So I disconnected it again.

Service mode also works fine. In service mode I was able to get all the drop targets to reset, and I saw that pretty much everything on the playfield did work, with the exception of the aformentioned flipper and slingshot.

Nothing will score any points at all, not even during the half second that the coils function. A few other things do continue to function though. A few of the lights still sequence, the score still displays at zero, and the credits display still works, as does the ball kickout in the center of the playfield. And when your ball drops down the middle it is kicked right back out to the plunger again.

Credit sound effects work, and I seem to recall getting some music out of it for a second while I was messing around, but it doesn't play any noise during that brief bit of gameplay.

The boards are nice and clean. There is no battery acid damage at all, and they show absolutely no signs of modifications other than the removal of the original battery.

The serial numbers appear to match on every component in the cabinet as well.

So far all fuses have been checked, all the board connectors have been removed and plugged back in, and the (few) socketed chips have been reseated.

Oh yeah the tilt works, even after the half second is up.
