Difference between horizontal and universal mounting?
« on: October 18, 2003, 05:43:42 pm »
Hiya folks...I am ordering a k7200 from WG on Monday and was wondering if I could save a little money ($40) by ordering a horizontal mount monitor rather than a universal mount.  It's going in an old Galaxian cabinet, and I have no problem modifying it to hold a horizontal monitor.

Should I worry about the horizontal monitor possibly falling out of it's mounting brackets?  Or is it pretty secure?  This machine won't be moved much once it's in; I plan to take the monitor out before major moves.

Thanks,

John

PS I still have that Audigy for sale...$35 shipped.

You're going to have to modify the cab for a 28" monitor regardless of the mount style, I don't see where which one you choose would make a major difference one way or the other. If anything horizontal mounts are more stable as you can build a "shelf" in the cab and bolt the monitor down to that.

The K7200 is a 19" monitor.

The monitor in a Galaxian cabinet is mounted with the screen nearly parallel to the floor, so the monitor will not be on a shelf.  What I need to know is whether there is a substantial difference between the horizontal and universal monitors.  Specifically, should I be concerned about the tube falling out of the horizontal mounting bracket when mounted in a Galaxian/PacMan cabinet?

Doh! I read that as a D9200.  :o

Even easier then. The k7200 series should bolt right in. I have one of those with a horizontal mount and they're commonly used in both horizontal and verticle games, at all kinds of mounting angles. The tube bolts solidly to the frame with either mounting style, and should be rock solid.

Excellent!  I confess, when I first read your post I thought, "What does this guy know and why is he even replying?" and started to reply like that...then I thought better of it and I'm glad I did!  Thanks for the good advice.  Goes to show that you gather more flies with honey...some words a few people around here should heed.  :)

Thanks again Tailgunner!
