Dongle not Recognized / PGA Golf Team Challenge
« on: November 01, 2012, 12:25:48 pm »
I have a PGA Golf Team Challenge arcade game that I obtained from a friend.  It was not working.  I re-installed all CDs (version 3.x).  The install seemed to go perfectly (after I replaced the Power Supply).  But the game still boots up and says that it does not recognize the dongle (or it is missing).

I bought a new dongle and VR recommended that I reinstall - which I did - and I still get the same error message.  They also stated that new dongle they sent may require version 4.x software instead of 3.x software.  (may not be compatible with version 3.x software)

I already reset the motherboard settings to "load from default" as VR suggested.

Does anyone have any ideas on other items to configure or check to verify that the dongle is working?  I do have an IT friend at work that can boot up Linux - just to see if it shows up in the linux device list.   But are there any other tools to check the dongle or configure it?

Dongle plug into USB?  Try plugging it into a different USB port.

No it does plug into a USB. I think they sent me the 4.0 dongle and it does not match my 3.0 software. Global told me to send it back and they would replace it with the 3.0. However they told me that the 4.0 was a upgrade and expensive (for the dongle). Does anyone know what that upgrade achieves?

hi
1=to start with the dongle plug's into the parral port of the putter
then u take a cable from 1 usb port to the :I/O: card
2=ver4 is an up-grade and will not work with 3..
3=the code is written in both linux and window's >XPE<
so u can clearly c the call's
4=it is possiable to shut the dongle down.>LOOK FOR THE CALL,INCULDING THE NESSARY DLL'S<
5=i take it u are usa ?

what i just told u will get u started,gobal vr no longer support's pga golf,the engerring team was disbanned 10 year's ago
if u require detailed setup .ins
try this

1=set cdrom as first
2=set harddrive >0< as second
3=turn floopy seek off
4=disable floopy

if u care to disamble the code set,u will need a few tool's
they list as follow's

1=window's >XPE< disambler,so u can see the .EXE
2=hercule's disambler,with this u cannot do it on a win7 box >MUST BE 98/XP<,
3=a through know of window's

I think that version 3 is "Challenge" and version 4 is "Team Challenge" which was the latest release of the series unless you want to count the "ALL ACCESS" pass.  I could be wrong but I remember my old "Challenge" disks being version 3 I believe.  How much were you charged for version 3?  On the dongle does it say "Challenge" or "Team Challenge?"  My dongles do not go in the typical USB slots as they have pin layouts.

The OP stated that he purchased a dongle from Global VR so I don't think that it's a hack.  With that being said I have never seen a dongle that plugged into a USB port for PGA.  So unless Global VR has some new way to connect a dongle I think that there is a misunderstanding somewhere.  My dongles plug into the parallel port...I've never seen a USB dongle for this game.

I know what you are talking about as my all access came with a usb key.  I am unsure if that was the dongle or not.  I havent looked in the back of my machine as I am at work today.  I believe I sent the usb and my dongle to Global VR and the sent back the dongle patched with All Access.  I will lok tomorrow and update ya.

That would make sense if "All Access Pass" is a USB update or security key (it's the only version I haven't played).  From what I've experienced all other versions are using a dongle that plugs into the printer port on the back of the computer.

I even looked at the team challenge manual online and it said that a usb dongle was used.  My all access usb was found in game I bought at auction.called global vr and the said they would reprogram it if I sent it to them, so that was a no brainer.

hi
what u have is an all access point usb stick
the dongle hook's to the par port of the mobo >it carry's< your box :key: along with the o/s rev/date/verison
that is what the kill cmd i posted the other night is for
if the usb all access is  not working then there is a few step's here
1=is your i/o card pluged into the main mobo usb ?
2=do u have a usb-2 card ? if so is it plugged in there instead ?
3=where is your player-card reader plugged into? > it should be usb also<
4=have u chked to make sure all usb's are working ?
5=did u make the i/o card  is pluged into the power supply ?
