19" Electrohome G07--solid green screen
« on: August 29, 2012, 07:37:03 am »
Hi all, I recently purchased a Dragon Breed in a Stargate cabinet. The monitor is displaying only solid green. It's an Electrohome with a Rauland 19VMJP22

The diagonal lines are from camera...

These horizontal lines appeared after adjusting the flyback...

I cannot get the game to start playing, as I cant see anything lol. Any ideas on where to start? Caps look brand new.

that top pic looks like its haunted or something.

Are you able to hear the game start playing?
first thing you should do is just verify that its definitely an electrohome g07. I only say that because if you are just going by the sticker on the side, I have seen chassis boards installed in other frames before.
you can always post some pics of the monitors control board here but you can also compare it to the pics here http://arcadecontrols.com/BBBB/monitor.html

verify if the game plays blind, that is when you hear it play but don't see it on the monitor. this will give you a better idea if you have a board issue or a monitor issue.
on the neck board of a g07, there are 2 pots on one side and 3 on the other side, these are for your colors, set these all at a half.

if still all green also try pulling off the video feed to the monitor from the game board and see if its still green.

if its still green after this, your green gun may have a short.
depending on how much you adjusted the knobs on the flyback (screen and focus) you may wanna turn your screen down a little, thats why you have those lines.

let know how things go with this.

did the game work before purchase.

Haha, it does look possessed lol. I like that pic. As far as I know, the game works, I have yet to see it for myself tho. The guy I bought it from said it did play blind, and he's a stand up guy, don't think he'd lie. Yes, it is a g07, positive. I messed with the rgb knobs on the neckboard without much luck, I'll poke around a bit later tonight. Iv repaired a couple monitors before, but have never encountered this. Thx a lot for the reply :)

Yeah definitely try removing the rgb input from the monitor and see if it stays green.
It may be a shorted gun or a bad transistor all 3 color circuits are the same so you can try swapping the transistors on the neck board.

Well it's def a monitor issue. After adjusting the dips, game started playing blind (well, playing green lol) After messing with the neckboard, I was able to get somewhat of a picture, albeit blurry:

Actually, was able to get rid of most the green, but not much, if any, red. It looked like white/purple almost.

Keep in mind that its probably blurry because you adjusted the knobs on the flyback. On of those knobs controls the focus. Its hard to say for sure without actually troubleshooting it but my guess is that maybe the transistor on the neck board that controls the green is bad.
You can verify by swapping it with either the red or blue transistor and seeing if the tint changes. Sometime its just as easy to replace all 3 with new. Download a G07 manual and it will show which transistor is which. Also any time servicing an old monitor, its beneficial to adjust the B+ voltage, especially after changing any components.

That's the best I could get the focus. Turned the other way, it washes out into practically nothing

Definitely try what MGB suggested in removing the green signal and seeing if the pictures changes. If not, the next thing would be to swap over or just outright replace the RGB transistors on the neck board. This exact thing happened to one of my MTC9000 chassis, everything was blue. A new transistor did the job :)

Good luck!

I wonder if it may be easiest for you to just swap out the neck board, incase you also do have a focus issue (but I would worry more about the green issue and then the focus issue)

Maybe, I'll try tackling the green issue first. If it turns into a mess, I'm sure i can locate a new neckboard

Ok, removed the five-pin connector that connects the neckboard to the chassis, and this is what displayed...

the connector you wanna pull is the one that connects game video to the monitor main board.
It sounds like you may have pulled the yoke connector. the one you want is a little further up from there.

The connector looked to trace up to the green/red drive on neckboard.

Ok, I pulled the video connector and had a solid green screen. Shades fluctuated with adjustments, but never strayed from green.

Yeah I'm sorry, your right that the connector you pulled is from the rgb to neck board color drives.
so now you pulled the video connector and you still have green, so we know its a monitor issue (already basically assumed) and not a game board issue.

Most likely its a bad transistor in the green circuit. its still possible that the gun is shorted but I have usually found it to be a bad transistor.

There are 3 transistors in the green circuit, two on the main board (x103 and x104) and one on the neck board (x103).

you find it easiest to just replace all 3 of them or you can atleast remove them from the circuit just to see if the green goes away. if it doesn't go away, then you have a shorted gun but my bet is that it will go away and you will find one of those transistors are bad.

Right, well I'm goin on vaca in a couple days, so Ill have to sit on this for minute. But at least I have something to chase after. I'll report back when I troubleshoot. Thx for the help thus far.
