Flyback K7000 would you replace this?
« on: July 12, 2012, 11:23:55 pm »
Hey Everyone,

So once again i am having to dive into my pockets lol....

I have a WG K7000 that functions perfectly, however there is some slight blurring in one corner.

So i figured why not just recap the monitor,  so i have ordered all the replacement caps and i had a little inspection of my flyback before i pulled the chassis out as i want to do it all in one sweep.

I have noticed there is a tiny hairline crack (i mean tiny) and also a crack on the outer case(duno if thats ment to be there)

Would you replace it?
If this blows how much damage am i looking at?
Would you not start the monitor till it is replaced?

Should i replace anything else while i am at it?

Thanks guys will atach a picture

Shipping something from the U.S. to Canada for repair/exchange?  Please use USPS to avoid (additional?/excessive?) shipping charges.  PM me if you have any questions.

Ed i love the fact you live on here!!!

So that is normal ?
should i give it a really good clean and have a better inspection or is damage to these units very noticeable.

I have heard in other posts people mention this flyback (the one with the white knobs) is complete crap?

Is this common knowledge or is this just his personal opinion.

Thanks ed

nope.

unless it's arcing outside, leave it.

shut off the lights and look at it while it's going if you see a purpley/bluey looking arc comming out of the cracks it's gonna need replacing.

the ferrite core is 2 pieces held together with a silver wire clamp, so no not a crack. The cracks around the controls are common, so unless it's arcing outside. no problem.

I had a flyback in a machine that  had a hole blown in the side and was arcing to the focus lead wire where it runs up the side of the flyback...peeled back the wire so it didn't arc to it anymore and ran it for another 8 or 10 months before i remembered about it and pulled it back to the shop and fixed it.  :o oopsie

reading??? uhm... here of course. Not gonna get a better education!

Ya arrow furthest to the right is supposed to be there. I do however see the other little cracks you pointed out. Maximize the picture guys to see them.

 :dunno

yes i see some cracks, no they aren't at the point where it's going to fail on you yet, yes it's normal...the flyback can run really hot. plastic and heat don't get along and it dries out and cracks. as long as the high voltage stays inside the plastic case it's all good.

Those cracks around the focus knob are a time-bomb, waiting to go off.  White knobbed K7000 flybacks should be replaced, even if they're currently working.  Their black counterparts are more resilient, but the white models are problematic.

$25 plus shipping, a few minutes of work, and you're good for another 20 years.
