Shell into Keywiz and Hyperspin using keywiz uploader 3
« on: July 28, 2012, 01:03:52 pm »
I've read what I can and found http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=107658.0 but that didn't solve my problem.  I'm not sure they were using uploader 2 or not and I would love to try uploader 2 but can not find a link to it anywhere.

My story;

I bought a keywiz st.  Got it all wired, hooked in.  Had a bit of run around since I stupidly thought the 4 tiny holes on the corners next to the terminals were the mounting holes but kinda questioned that because they had solder mounting.  Went ahead because, seriously, who has 2 mounting holes in the middle of a curcuit board?  Anyways, drilled new holes, put the standoffs in the two more central holes that allowed #6 screws.  Screwed the nuts down and I'm pretty sure they aren't touching any circuit board things but a #6 nut is big enough to get real close to those things...  Thats my mounting story.

So I got it working and it finally connected to keywiz uploader 3.  Got it all working, worked fine using the default(mame) controls.  Worked in hyperspin.  Thats fine if I was running just mame, but I'm not.  I have a bunch of other systems running in windowed mode.

Soo..

I changed my keymap in keywiz and uploaded, saved to profile A.  Everythings fine, nice and tweaked.  Right where I want it to be.

Now as my last touch before I throw everything in the cabinet I would like the computer to not show any windows related things at all.  Yes, I am nitpicking but knowing and seeing Windows stuff ruins the effect imo.

So I went and tried the "throw keywiz in startup folder" - fine worked but you see the windows gui.
I went into regedit and threw some /nologongui and /noboot or something somewhere.  I can get those out if need be.  I just googled how to change windows logon or something.

I added hyperspin to the /windowsnt/etc/shell(I forget what it is exactly) and its great but the button layout is all wrong.
So then I finally went with adding a shell of "(path)/keywizuploader3.exe /a /p a /l" - so now it loads keywiz and this is the confusing part.

It loads keywiz, but fails to connect to board, doesn't keep trying, just boots keywiz and says failed to connect.  But if I use the mouse and click on the wizard he uploads and connects.  From there I would have to click the launch button.

If I crtl+alt+del and run explorer Keywiz loads, uploads A and launches hyperspin like its supposed to.

So I'm not sure whats up and why its not connecting when its shelled.  I will try and look up what I did earlier with the /nologongui and that and undo that but that shouldn't change things.

One other thing, I am usually booting without my actual keyboard plugged in as it keeps bringing up a "install new software" for it.  Its a USB keyboard and I think if I have them both plugged in at the same time the keyboard and the keywiz board conflict.

So work around idea, on my nyko gamepad I can map a joystick to the mouse axis and click.  Can I do this with the keywiz?

Otherwise does anyone know how to get keywiz shelled and to launch hyperspin?

OR - is there a way(like I think there is on the ipac?) to just re-flash the default keys on the board itself and not use the gui software or have to use the profiles at all?

This would be so much easier if I could just flash the profile A ONTO the board itself and have that as its new default with no gui stuff at all....

Well, I found a different way to go about this but testing both ways and I broke my windows trying to edit my welcome screen text itself.  I think it was the logonui.exe that stopped my bootup and I couldn't access safe mode even.  That sucked.  Oh well, now using a nice new fresh clean install.

I found that in HyperHQ you can set a startup program with parameters also so I could load hyperspin which in turn loads keywiz.  I'm getting mixed results but since a fresh install I might be getting more solid ones tomorrow.

Right now I just said F it and am booting into windows and just have nothing on my desktop at all.  Found a regedit tweak to get rid of the recycle bin and I just hide my taskbar.  It might be good enough for now but I'm still looking for any thoughts if they are out there.
