Remember "The Arcade" joystick from Suzo ?
« on: July 12, 2012, 03:16:59 pm »
Hello Arcade lovers and oldskool gamers,

Remember back in the 80's, when you played games on your Commodore 64 and/or later on the Amiga? , the joystick that would last, had a perfect grip and played the best ?

Yes off course it was the Arcade joystick from Suzo made in Rotterdam.

Now I want to build my own Arcade cabinet and cannot deside which new joystick I want to build in my CP. Seimitsu, happ, sanwa. I first googled suzo ( happ ) of course if they still made joysticks, but read that it aint the quality they used to make.
I want the same look and feel like my good old Arcade joystick, the same throw, the same precision, the same stifness, the same shaft length. Or something that would be as close as possible.

Can anyone give me some advice which joystick comes even close to the old Arcade joystick ?
I play mostly shmups, but also the old Arcade games like pacman, dig dug and fighting games too.

Suzo Inductive is perfect for what you're looking for. Unfortunately, they were discontinued a few years ago, so they're pricey and a little hard to find. I have them in my vert cab, and they are one of the best sticks I've ever used.

I have four NOS inductives. I haven't gotten round to fiddling with them, though, as you have to make a harness, and have a special tool to remove the retaining ring. I still have to put my test rig together....

@MrChucky: I suggest trying to find one of those old ones, you might. I don't remember this stick, though. I only remember, from ads on Starcade, the Wico stick.

I wired mine with CAT5. Not what I normally do, but the connector is small. They've been working fine for about 4 years.

You have to get a five-pin inline connector, which might be at Radio Shack for three dollars, or it might be forty cents - across town.
