Material To Make Cab Mockup??
« on: July 22, 2012, 12:23:37 pm »
I have seen members build mockups of there cabs out of cardboard to see who it looks and fits together before they actually cut a single bit of wood. But what material is used is it just basic card or is there some sort of specila kraft board you can get?? As im trying to find sheets of card that are around the size of 1300x1000 but cant for the life of me find any that size. Just wondered where this sort of size board can be found

PS. im based in the UK

A cab shouldnt need a mock up, good plans, and woodwork skills should suffice, The time spent doing that could be spent on the project....
That is unless your building a one of a kind something, Then cad design programs can be quite helpful.....The templates you build can be test fit
together and/or changed before the router comes out.

Yeah its a completely bespoke design, and a mash up of 3 different cab designs. Ive already made the cab up in Google sketchup but there's no substitute for actually have the cab physically in front of you to make sure everything looks like/hope it should

Still, the thickness would vary giving an approximation at best....If your determined to go that route, a good picture frame shop would have 4 by 8
sheets of foam core, and cardboard. A good art supply would also have it....Again however, make the templates off real wood so you can use them
when you get them perfect (router jig).

Just make a mockup of the CP and the screen area. Put them in the position from the plan, and check if you like the CP layout and the display distance/angle. If that is OK, then build the thing.
