OK, I've reached the next stage of my current project (Finally completed some crucial components and I'm left to order parts). While I do my shopping, I figured I'd look at the artwork aspect.
Please note, I left ALL of the reference photos elsewhere and it'll take me some time to figure out where they are so just bear with me on this. Right now, I'm fishing for ideas. I have an "action" photo of my father training in Brazil(?). After futzing with it a bit, I quickly decided that the "real" photo wouldn't fit well with the rest of the artwork I have in mind (none of it is drawn up, it's all in my head). So I started looking through my other photos and discovered a caricature and a pencil sketch I had done of myself years ago. They're crap but it got me thinking and I started digging through some old magazines circa 1950's or older. Or historical magazines that focus on that time frame. Hold that thought, we'll get right back to that.
As a reference of what I
really like, I'm particularly fond of the artwork on
Scramble. It's got a 70's vibe which I find sexy, but more importantly, it's got few colors to work with. Which I think would work well with the cab.
My father was seriously injured at a competition in 1967 (I think) so I want to keep the artwork styles with that 50's or 60's vibe. To give an idea what some of that was like here is a
"Ski Heritage Publication" publication that displays photos from the 40's up to around the 60's or 70's. The action photo I have is similar to the upper right photo (NotDad.jpg) on Page 15. I have a much better scan of course

Page 30 (girl.jpg) has a nice style I think would work well. Bold simple colors. I've uploaded samples of both photos as reference
This is a nice style, don't you think? Nice bold colors, easy to transfer the final to a cab?
This is NOT a picture of my father. It's NOT the one I want to use. I'm using this as a reference until I can get back up and get the actual image back sometime by the end of this month. I have a much higher quality scan of the image I want.
However, I really like the style of the 2nd art from Vol16, No3 Page 37 (girl2.jpg) of the same magazine series. This is the style of artwork I remember from my youth.
Is it feasible to create a bold color art in the same style as girl2.jpg from a "live" photo in a vector?
