Have you been to frys lately???
« on: September 28, 2003, 02:33:46 am »
i go there every 3 weeks or so but today i went there and i was suprised on the amount of stuff they put on the floor in the games section

i went there to check out the "free joysticks 34.99 - 34.99" it was connected to an xbox with doa3 and the xbox to a big plasma tv the funny thing is the plasma was connected by composite video and it was a stretched 4:3 image not native 16x9

and if youve seen a plasma with anything thats not progressive its not pretty at all

they also had that x arcade shelf setup with an xbox, magnavox tv and soul calibur 2

they stuck a piece of plexi in front of the lower shelves to protect the xbox

in the modified sony video camera display case they put cvs2  for ps2 on that crappy wide lcd looked like crap they put the x arcade solo in front of it too

they also had a ps2 running some tennis game with a crappy vga box on it looked like garbage

they also had a gamecube with a gameboy player

and another plasma (set up correctly with component video and 480p) with an xbox running simpsons hit and run.

This just seems odd, i mean its great they probably get lots of kids wanting plasma screens and x arcade shelves and crappy joysticks

but ive never seen anything like that at a store before the closes thing would be what toysrus did a few years ago where they had like 8 consoles hooked up that you could play but it had no fancy crap connected.

Yeah, I don't get that place.. most places that are that large, carry the variety of Fry's, and waste that much money on displays seem to go out of business quickly down here.  I'm waiting for the one we got to go OoB like the Incredible Universe did :P

Anyways, my local one has a lot of crap set up too, I just never gave it much thought.  Fry's is just an extravagant store.

What's interesting is how Frys has established itself as a LOCATION to the younger set.  When we want something to do, we go to frys.  It's kinda funny cuz it seems so lame (we're gonna go walk around the grocery store for fun!) but teens love it.  Maybe all y'all's just old fries.

Funny you should mention that -- the Fry's I used to go to in Phoenix was set up where an Incredible Universe USED to be!

Anyway, doubt it will go out of business anytime soon -- have you ever seen the LINES in there?  Can anyone say Space Mountain?

if you went to frys the day after thanksgiving the line to get inside stretches outside and around the store and once you get to buy you wait in a line that goes from the front of the store to the back left to the back right to the entrance it took 2 hours to get to the front from the back left

funny you mention how its become a "kids spot" i don't see any problem about it i mean the more fancy crap you set up the more "mommy will you buy that" there is

i wouldn't doubt they sold plasmas just cause some kid whined his or her ass off for one

or

if the kids are dumb enough to break it they will get id'd fast cause of all the security cams

either way frys ends up the winner

I was in an Incredible Universe in Texas....huge place...needed to get some ridiculous ID to get inside, and inside it was like..well....like some freaky dark and neon-lit explosion of everything electronic, with sky-high prices (no doubt paying for all that eye-candy).

Course this was like 10+ years ago and I knew they'd gone out of business since then, but it was a cool place to visit, even if only once or twice.  Still, I 'd never buy anything there...prices were outrageous.

I was at Fry's today (Burbank) and I swear I'm never spendign another &*&#@(* %&*#)!@ penny in that scam shop.  I bought crimpers and Cat5 plugs to make my own patch cables 32 days ago. Turns out they only accept returns if it's under 30 days, and this is for non-computer items!. The manager said he was doing me a favor by issuing store credit, and said he could just as easily refuse the return. I had a valid receipt and I paid CASH. I can't think of any other store that has a similar policy. Fry's doesn't know what the &(^@ customer service is, or understancd the concept of a happy customer.  So now i have a 47 dollar store credit to a place I refuse to shop at. maybe I'll EBAY it (Prob. has to be used within 24 hours knowing those A-holes)

^&*# Fry's! I hope they go belly up.

Ya know what I dont get, you can either buy this with FAKE arcade parts that feel cheaper, and less parts:
http://xgaming.net/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=OINF&Store_Code=XOS&Action=ADPR&Product_Code=XSOLO&Attributes=Yes&Quantity=1
or you can buy this guy with REAL arcade parts and is a double control panel:

Fry's aren't going belly up any time soon.  Randy Fry owns a fleet of Learjets and is making enough to buy more, and the company owns a golf course on a mountaintop somewhere.  They're expanding left and right; building another store here in the Dallas area, just the latest in a string of new stores.

CitznFish -- don't mean to burst your mad-on, and I don't want to sound like I'm defending Fry's, but (a) most places you'll go have a 30 day return policy on most stuff (even places like Wal Mart and Best Buy) and (b) the return policy is no big secret (it's on the back of the cash register receipt).  (What does it say on the bottom of the green sheet -- store credit, cash, check or ???  Depending on the cashier, you can get a cash refund if you buy something -- can be something small, a pack of gum or something, just go in and say "I'm paying with this, can I get cash back?"  They might go talk to a supervisor, but if the amount is $40 or less they probably won't even balk.)

Next time you go into Fry's (anyone, not just Fish) and you get bad customer service, pick up one of those Direct Connect flyers, fill it out and send it in; make sure you get the name of the person who pissed you off.  I think they're postage prepaid, and they go right to Randy Fry (president of the company).

Edit:  One more thing.  Since it's store credit, Fry's already has your money.  If you redeem it for stuff or whatever cash back you can get, you're getting it back from them.  If you sell it on ebay for less than the credit amount, they've still got your money.

Dude I LOVE Fry's.  I could spend all day there, in fact if I'm bored I've been known to hit the Fry's in Las Colinas for lunch. It's the newest one in DFW and it's really nice like the ones you guys in San Jose and San Fran get.

the one by my house is in an old Incredible Universe and it is live force draining just to walk into that dark dank place.  But if you want computer parts quick...you gotta do that or the first Saturday Freak show computer sale downtown.

the best thing about Fry's is the friday ads.  Every week there's an xbox game on sale.  Usually old, but also usually 9.99.  this week Need for Speed 2 and SSX Tricky2
