Commercial arcade cabinet faulty
« on: March 26, 2012, 02:28:27 pm »
Hi guys.

Week before last i bought 2 arcade cabinets to install in a bar.

A Cadalacs and dinosours, and this other 100 in 1 jamma peace of bollox.
Cadalacs and dinosours isn't in it's origonal cabinet, it's not in the best of condition, but hey it's working perfect in the pub.

My other cabinet, the 100 in 1,,,
When i first brought it home it gave me a error, "ERROR! Check power supply"
I phoned the guy up who i bought the 100 in 1 from (durban.gumtree.co.za) i payd R4 800 for it 2nd hand
He told me the board was faulty, and that i must bring it back for a exchange, i unplugged the jamma cable and molex, took the board back to him to get exchanged.

I came home with the new board, went and installed it, when i powered it on,,,

Arcade monitor only had gray on it, and nothing happened.
When i took a R2 coin and chuck it into the coin mech, and pressed start, a neogeo game started, but guess what, screen still blank.

I checked the screens wires on the jamma connector, and the white plugs between the jamma and the arcade monitors board, and the wires between the board and the monitor.

Seems like the guy isn't interisted in helping me out, and i can't travel all the way back to durban either.

What do you guys think might be wrong?
I'm never buying anything from him again, I'm really upset.

Here's a few photos, i checked everything, but can't find anything wrong.

It sounds like the monitor is dead.
I'm assuming the monitor appears totally lifeless while the game sounds like its playing.
It's not uncommon at all for a problem to come up like this after moving a game.

First check all connections at the monitor and check fuses too.

Sometimes a check power supply fault just means your power supplies voltage is too high or too low.

if you are going to operate vids what about investing in a multimeter,i have worked in the coin op industry for 26 years and i can prove a fault in seconds using a multimeter
first thing you are going to do is read the output voltages from the power supply to the game board, next thing you are going to do is keep a cheap test pcb so you can chuck it in the cab and prove where the issue is in seconds

the monitor is running to some degree as you have a grey screen, maybe the board you have is set the wrong frequency as i know alot of these xxx in 1 game you can set the video output from 15k to 31k

if you are getting coin up and game sounds then psu is ok

Hi guys, thank you for the replys, well, I've got a multi meter, i did set the power supply, and it seemed okay, how to you set the xxx in 1 boards frequancy? It didn't have anything on that in the user manual, the board itself doesn't have a vga plug on it like our graphics cards, I'm very new to using jamma etc, so please help me to set the frequancy to see if that might help? thank you

Mmm, how do you set the boards frequancy? I'll try that, but nothing in the 100 in 1's user manual about it, and not much about trouble shooting either, i got a multi meter, did set the psu to about 5.5 volt, the guy i bought the machine from said it should be in that range.

5.05 to 5.10 max at jamma pin 3,4
5.50 is a little high although should not damage anything
you should check your 12 volts also(pin 6)

i do not think this is a monitor fault

The idiot never pitched up, machine still faulty. and I'm loosing R2 a shot.

My other machine Cadalacs and Dinosours is also making R2 a game, and brought me in R400 bucks last week, could've made so much more.

Went there yesterday to go empty the coin boxes on my machines, and guess what, machine gave another problem, apparintly since Sunday night.
When you plug it in it gives continuous beeps, no display, with me being a qualified computer technition by trade it shouts out faulty ram to me.
I've got old ram on hand, i will be installing it maybe today and see what it does.

I hope that will work, and I'm thinking of installing exhaust fans on the cabinet aswell, for it's very hot and humid here by us, and i think heet can also be a big isue.

As for my cadalacs and dinosours cabinet, it's still grafting 100% respect to that ugly cab.
