xxx-in-1 pcb easy fix
« on: April 16, 2012, 10:14:08 am »
Something happened to me, well, just decided to share the outcome of it with everybody. :)

For those who knows, or those who don't know, the xxx or xxxx in 1 pc boards that you can buy is actually a modified computer motherboard,
starting from modified p3 motherboard upwords.

If you want a brand spanking new item from top to bottom, this product won't be for you, as the motherboards are old computer motherboards that got recycled and modified.

But i actually had a rather good outcome here.

The board i have gave problems once again, when you switched it on, you got this annoying beeping sound and no video output.
So yesterday i dragged my cabinet back home, and this morning i removed the board from the cabinet, unscrewed the whole thing, took the old dim ram chip out, which was a 256 mb chip. digged in my trash copboard, and found TWO 256 mb ram chips that will fit nice and snug on the xxx in 1 board. installed them, put the board together, started it up outside the cabinet, and guess what 512 mb ram.

Havn't had problems since, games loads faster, and overall system performance is better.
So guys, if your board gives you problems, and you are sure that it is a ram problem, don't be scaired to take it apart, just know what you're doing.
System has been running since 8 this morning, it's 4:10 pm, board is powered up for 8 hours now already, still no problems.

Enjoy
Quintin

i have a few of these but with new parts-these are very cheap to buy yourself if you know where to go.
of course you have all the issues you will get with any pc-ram is one and if you have a used hdd then i suggest you clone onto a brand new drive

The board that I've got has got a soldid state drive (sd card) 1 gb

I've never tried it, but i want to get another board simular to this board, and i wana try and hack the software to add or remove games, never tried it but i know it must be possible.

I've got a normal mame cabinet aswell that i built, but it's just something to play with.
