The end of an era...
« on: January 24, 2012, 09:21:15 am »
My nine year old now routinely beats me at Call of Duty deathmatches.  And...now...when playing Nazi Zombies, he tells me what to do.  And gets frustrated with me when I don't do it the way he wants.  I'm worried that pretty soon I'll start showing up with my bruises on my face and telling people I fell down the stairs or walked into a tree...

Oh well...I'll always have Burgertime...

Try to find a game he is crap at and berate him when he fails.  Like a classic game of Pengo or Pacman.  Do that enough and he will chill it out.  He wants to shine and show how cool he is.  He just needs to be introduced to the deep end, every now and then.  If it is a physical thing find something you can participate that doesn't kill you but tires the little guy out.  House painting is a good one.

Remember we are supposed to be scared of our fathers, so don't wimp out if he steps in the red zone.

My other brother is like that.  His kids just learned to mistreat him in the pool, especially at Water Polo.  When they try that trick on me I give them a lung full of water.  >:D   None of his kids steps out of line or gets in my way in that house plus they always let me win at Scrabble.   :laugh2:
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Oh yeah.  It's just tough once they start beating you at things...it's also awesome all at the same time...

Besides, every time we're done with Call of Duty, his brother, him and I all spend a good 30 minutes wrestling and beating each other up.  Don't see myself losing that one for quite a while.

Kid's are supposed to be scared of their dads? Lol classic ark ader. I'd hate for my kid's to be scared at me. Disrespecting me would be a different story.  And don't berate the kid. Lol. You just need to show him he's not fun to play with and his friends won't want to play with him if he plays like a jerk

Sounds like he's a serious player, and can't stand watching those who don't get it, and who don't follow orders.

My 5 year old gets a bit crazy when we play games and its not going his way, in a stern voice i have to tell him to relax and calm down that its just a game, and if he doesnt we turn it off.  That gets him to mellow out.

but to stay on topic, yeah end of an era indeed. back in the day I was a well respected fighter. now I gotta worry about losing to random-ass 11 year old hulk players in ULTIMATE MARVEL 3...... :dunno

fighting games are being designed for 8 year olds now. there are "easy modes" too. like all these new crap isn't already braindead lol..

It's all good.  I showed him last night how important it was to get your fighter captured in Galaga on the cabinet.  We probably played Galaga for another 45 minutes after that.  He can't come close to my scores, but he does pretty well.  I think he made it just past the second challenging stage on his best credit.

Meh, never liked Tekken so I dont really care. Capcom is starting to grind my gears with what they did with Marvel vs Capcom, and the characters, the lobby, how they charged DLC at launch, and it SUCKED... I still fell for it though like a dumbass...  ::)

launch dlc is the dumbest "invention" EVER

they take out content just to sell them separate. I cant get wesker's RPD outfit unless I bought it from bestbuy. what kind of crap is that??

guess what, I have a jtag xbox. SUCK IT!

What do you guys think about Street Fighter VS Tekken?

looks ok actually. but I am sure it will have scrub tactics :P

You guys still playing that trash? I didn't even bother with ultimate. Pretty disillusioned with capcom after the last couple years

Since you brought it up  I'll agree with you.  Capcom has always been petrified to take risks in terms of their overall design towards fighters.  The only thing the mange to do is insert more and more overly complex combos and combo systems.  I'm sure that's enough if you are a hardcore player, but if you aren't and you strip all of that away you are playing sf2, which was released in 1992.  There are no bonuses, no story, no extras.... nothing.

People seem to complain when I say that MK is the superior franchise but the reason I say that is because the MK series is always evolving.  Mind you sometimes it evolves in horrible, terrible ways (MK:A, MKvsDC) but at least they are trying to give you as much content as possible and totally new game concepts and bonus modes to play with.

When SfIV first came out I was really excited... it was a little bare bones, but hey, it's a start!  When they Announced Super SFIV I thought "dear god here we go again"  and sure enough we've got 3 versions of 4, 2 versions of MVC3, which is essentially "4 lite" and new x Tekken and god knows how many sequels that will essentially be tweaked versions of 4, until they ruin fighters again.

Well you're agreeing with me for the wrong reasons lol. I don't care for story lines 'bunch of fighters get together to see who's the best' is good enough for me. The main gripe is those scrub tactics the games engines allow. Ie stirring the butter. Mashing dp through block strings. Or for marvel x factor nonsense. Meh i'm good, I have 2 super sf2 turbo pcbs I can always play (1's a backup, just in case)

Edit, sorry but even with its flaws SSF4:AE 2012 (jesus.) is still better than any MK :P

Yeah . . . I don't think you can list MKvsDC in the "at least MK evolves" column. I'm pretty sure Capcom has had that base covered for quite some time.
