Thanks very much guys, so I should be able to run 12v from the disk drive power outputs on the PSU? Yellow for live black for neutral?

yes, i get what you mean, but when you talk about DC voltage it's called Positive and Negative. confusion can set in especially since many of the members here are from different parts of the world. let's not get into what negative is actually called...
Black for hot/live wires and White is used as the neutral wire in alternating current home line voltage in north america, so if you use that terminology, you may end up with some advice that is reverse to what you are meant to do.
on your computer PSU, most commonly the yellow wire connection is +12 volts and your black wires are Negative also known as zero volts (0) this is the equivalent to the (-) post on a battery
