WG 25K7193 - What Settings Work For You?
« on: December 20, 2011, 10:11:52 pm »
I have been playing with my monitor for some time, I can get the vertical hold to sync up but I can't seem to get a decent resolution where I can see the full desktop in XP.

I installed Soft15 but I have no idea if it's working. I used the nVidia control panel to change the settings down to 640x480 at 15khz and the picture looked okay, I tried to roll it down to 320 x 240 and this looked even better, but it doesn't show the whole desktop on the monitor.

Looking for some advice and what success others have had with this monitor. I see lots of posts where people had questions, but I don't see anything where any solid solutions were laid down.

Nobody else has had similar problems?

I read elsewhere when I load Mame up that it may / should look better.

I think I am going to VNC my way into WinXP and run Mame to see what happens.

Any advice on a front-end for Mame where it will auto-adjust resolutions?

I think 640X480 is your problem...you could try 640x480 interlaced..??  That gives you 240 lines of vert resolution, but flicker may be irritating.

Try 640X288'ish or something similar...I don't think your tube has 480 lines of vertical resolution.  Or, I could be totally off base too... :dunno
I never had good luck with NVIDIA cards & soft15khz...I had to use ATI cards.  I believe in the soft15khz forums the ATI4350 was the strongest card that could use for the lower dot clocks.

If you continue to struggle with soft15khz, I would suggest converting to groovymame and ATI4000 series video card.  Read up on it and you'll see why I give groovymame the thumbs up.
