Mounting a monitor vertically?
« on: November 29, 2011, 02:49:34 pm »
I built my cab many moons ago (5 or 6 years?) and it has served me well, but I've never been completely happy with the resolution of the TV for a monitor.
I'm planning a PC upgrade in the future so I can also run some of my favorite PC Driving games (eg: Need for Speed and others), so I was also wanting to upgrade the monitor while I had it apart.
I was thinking of buying a Flat Panel PC monitor and mounting it vertically.
If I did this, would the Arcade and PC games appear stretched or would they have black bars at the top and bottom, but still be proportional?  (I don't mind the black bars, that would be comparable to my current TV monitor as far as viewable screen).
This would give me better resolution for the PC games and also allow me to play some of the Pinball games with a larger table(yes?).

As you can see from the attached picture, I have a lot of wasted space below the current monitor and a little above.

Please let me know if this is possible and what the downsides are.

There has to be a software solution for that.  Back in '05 there was some program that did that XY for XP.

I have seen LCD monitors for special purposes that are mounted vertically and work like they are horizontal.  I bet if you play with the nvida settings you will find it.

If not, post this in the software section.  There are kinds of Wizards there.

CTRL-ALT-Arrowkeys
CTRL-ALT-UpArrow will restore normal desktop
CTRL-ALT-LeftArrow or CTRL-ALT-RightArrow will rotate by 90/270
CTRL-ALT-DownArrow will rotate 180
This is for Intel, i think..

CTRL+SHIFT+R

I use an Nvidia video card driver.  There some settings in there.

Here's this from another thread
