Pwend a GameStop ---meecrob--- today.
« on: November 13, 2011, 05:26:47 pm »
So I went into GameStop today to pick up my preordered copy of super Mario land 3d. It was pretty busy with allot of customers. So I wait my turn and I asked the guy at the counter if they had sonic classic collection for the ds. He takes a minute to look then says ya it's $19.99 I said ok I’ll take it then he tells me it's pre-owned. I told him never mind and he says alright and proceeds to ring up my Mario game.

While he's doing that this fat squinty eyed ---meecrob--- who's working behind the other side of the counter says why you don’t want a pre-owned one in a really snotty tone of voice. I said to him well for one thing they have it new for the same price at Wal-Mart (which is in eye shot)  and I'm not paying full price for used and anyone knows that a hell of allot of ds games are bootlegs.

Then I say plus Nintendo bricks your 3ds if you try to play pirated games. He just stood there for about three seconds looking like he just saw a three headed bigfoot. Then with his squinty, beady little eyes he hurried up to spot another customer and stammers out how can I help you. Seriously what a ---meecrob---. It wasn't even his sale and it’s none of his damn business if I buy new or used.

One of the best gaming choices I've made was to stop going to gamestop, about a year and a half ago. If I can't sell opened games as "new" neither should they.
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

Yup, I stopped giving GameStop my money several years ago.  I love how their "new" copies of games often have the manual looking like trash and the discs all scuffed up.  It's idiotic how they allow the gamestop employees to open up games, play them, then sell them as new.

I haven't been in Gamestop since I got screwed and the place burned to the ground so... about a year? If I recall correctly that's actually their store policy. They take all of their games out of the case and store them behind the counter to "avoid" theft. Since the discs don't appear to be ear marked for the appropriate box there's nothing stopping a GS employee from yanking a used game, "checking the disc in the proprietary disc checker than scans the disc for errors in about the same amount of time one would verbally state this quoted part of the sentence," and selling it as new.

And I kid you not about this proprietary disc checker. It's the same ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- in about half a dozen stores I visited but when I ask to see it, nope, not allowed. Against store policy.  :laugh2:

Well my problem with them is pure economics.  Back in the day it was difficult to buy games from anywhere except toy stores and gamestop because other stores simply didn't sell them.  Because of that we seemed to pay more for them (never any special deals, always full price regardless of the game's age ect..).

Now days we can buy games from virtually anywhere and although it's usually just a couple of bucks, gamestop is usually the MOST EXPENSIVE  store to buy games from.  Forget about used games for a minute... why would I even step foot in their store when I can get the same game at walmart or kmart cheaper?  Not only that but for some time now whenever you buy a AAA game at either of those stores you get a gift card or something to go with it.   You guys keep your "Gamestop exclusive Horse Armor DLC" I'll just get the game 5 bucks cheaper thanks.  ;)

And just on the whole thing about used games, I NEVER buy used games.  Why?  Well unless it's a brand new title I can usually get the game on sale online for the same price at worst or MUCH CHEAPER at best.  I have the thing delivered as well so my fat lazy butt doesn't even have to leave the house!

I know that's usually my goal when I leave the house.  Making someone cry themself to sleep!

:applaud: :applaud: :applaud: Me to chad, But i think we need to set our goals higher and make them curl up into the fetal position and piss thereselves while they slowly rock back and forth repeating its not real, its not real.

I find gamestop to be both good and bad. What I like is there pre order guarantee. I know most people don't bother with it but I live in a small town and for games we have, walmart, k mart and game stop.  Walmart and Kmart don't always get new games on release day if they even get them at all.

It's nice to not have to worry about availability of a game Ive been waiting months for. Another thing I like is that they sometimes do have good sales. for example I had been planning on buying a 3DS for Super Mario 3D land and Mario kart 7. I just happend to check my e mail before I left for walmart and they had sent me a power up rewards card for $25.00 off a new 3ds so I saved some $$$ there.

The one guy that is almost always there is really nice and helpfull and will go out of his way to help you with anything you need or have a question about and  I always ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- about games and systems with him.   I agree there used games are a joke. There always scratched two hell and back.  They also like two price gouge quite a bit.

I find allot of games for $5.00 or $10.00 less at walmart or Kmart. On the subject of k mart they rock pretty hard with those gamer coupons. If you have one of there store cards you will often get a $15-25.00 coupon for your next gaming purchase when you buy new release games there.

I'm in that boat, too... not that I never get launch games (Portal 2 made me break my rules), but delayed gratification tends to get me a 60-80% discount on every game I buy.

Yeah I don't get people who "stand in line" for videogames. It's not like the cartridge days where they was a limit in availability due to the chips involved. As of now, I see MW3 available for purchase on Amazon and that broke all kinds of sale records.

You can usually get your game with minimal effort. The only reason I see for pre-ordering is for something worthwhile as a bonus (like that OOT Master Quest for pre-ordering Wind Waker).

As for Gamestop, I go there sparingly - and then only for used last-generation games (e.g. PS2) since it's often Buy 2 Get 1. And I usually don't even get into any chitchat with the employees. They're just salesmen being forced to move product and will say anything to keep their jobs...

More of the same, except not as fun because it's stale and you've already figured out how to solve all the puzzles!

Turned that one off after half an hour, never to be played again.

With a month left to go in preorders on MW3, a coworker was told at Gamestop they were OUT of the hardened edition preorders.

They then proceeded to sell him their "equivalent".

And he's a damned sucker, and took their word for it.

Weeks later, you could still preorder it online (from other retailers AND them).

Welcome to Gameshop (Animation)

Yeah, hilarious.  Except they were shoving warranties and cleaning kits on us 20+ years ago.   ::)

20+ we (or at least I) had much more choices. I used to go to this little flea market type shopping center that had TWO video game stores with walls of games you couldn't find anywhere else (like unlicensed NES games). It was a quick transaction - no tax, $50 (ex.) flat and no trying to sell me needless add-ons and reward cards. If anything, they tried to get you out of there as quick as possible so they can go back to playing their game.

Those places are gone now, what was left was replaced by Gamestops.  :(

BTW: I'm not really counting the online sources we have nowadays. I do buy my games from them usually (Amazon) but you have to wait a few days for those to arrive. If I want a game today, it's either Gamestop or schlepping down to Best Buy.

(Edit: Messed up quoting - fixt)

gamestop didnt, FunCoLand did that, I used to work there and while not forced to sell them my lack of pitch was one of the reasons they let me go . FunCoLand merged and the was the start of the ball rolling down hill.

Years ago , we had an Electronics Boutique in our mall (Christiana Mall) and it was the best, helpful knowledgeable staff, laid back atmosphere, would let you try used games, fair prices etc etc etc now its a gamestop just like that video I posted.

Why do people go to Gamestop for new games anyway? I occasionaly go to look at the used stuff but I never would buy a new game there unless its really on sale (Portal 2). The most I've ever paid for a used game is $26.

That said there are two in my town where they don't push the upsale.

There are so many damn people thats what you HAVE to do. I hate people. I couldnt imagine living in an Asian country. I would go insane.  :timebomb:

Come to think of it, are there any other stores that exclusively sell games aside from Gamestop? EB games, Funcoland, are all gone.
Pictures are overrated anyway.

Well "Black Friday" is for those bargain seekers. Stores intentionally make it so that you "have" to go at 6am to get first dibs. The deals are often good enough that it's worth the hassle.

And I sort of understand Apple products or any hardware (like consoles) for the hardcore fans of said products. It's not pressing a disc, these all require many parts and assembly which leads to shortages.

But video games on optical media are easily manufactured, not like cartridges back in the day (I remember NEVER being able to find Super Mario Bros. 2 when it first came out for weeks on end.) If there's any so-called shortage, it's manufactured by the publisher. The only exception here would be for any of those premium-priced collector's editions for the more popular games, but even those I see sitting on the shelves looking for a home. But in general, you just don't see short supply of games like you used to. There's no need to line up for these things anymore.

Yeah I don't get people who "stand in line" for videogames.

It's not just video games, it's movies, Apple products, black friday, etc. I think standing in line is the new fun thing to do.

Well "Black Friday" is for those bargain seekers. Stores intentionally make it so that you "have" to go at 6am to get first dibs. The deals are often good enough that it's worth the hassle.

Man I WISH it was at 6am. Stores around here are opening at 3 am. My sister has to work at macy's at 4, and the GF wants to go black friday shopping. I dont know whats worse though, some stores are opening on Thanksgiving at 10 pm and midnight. Im almost glad that I have to work on Black Friday so I have an excuse not to go.  >:D
Pictures are overrated anyway.

Nobody has to stand in line.  We're talking about electronics.  Not flu shots.  Anyone who hates the line can wait a few days and pay the regular price.

gamestop ---meecrob--- almost pwned me yesterday. GF pre-paid for SR3 collectors (birthday present) tried to give me the regular one. I thought I was going to have to punch him.
