Mario Kart Marquee - Need Critics!
« on: October 12, 2011, 06:43:39 pm »
Hey everybody! If you haven't seen the thread (here:http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=114400.0), I've been working on a custom driving cabinet themed around Mario kart. I recently decided to attempt the artwork myself so i downloaded inkscape and started by tracing a picture of Mario that i plan on using in my marquee and side art. Anyways this is what I came up with:

You can probably tell it isn't done yet. I have a little bit more to trace and then i still have to shade it somehow. Any suggestions on what i should do? I was thinking of using gimp or a similar program to shade it in. Also the little empty box is where the game rating was (this is from the MK64 Boxart).

I've also traced the text of MK64 logo. This is what i used to trace:

And this is what I've come up with:

This is my basic layout for my marquee. The "64" has been replaced my "Racing" as the cabinet is not going to be just MK64. I got the idea from this newer logo here:

The background will eventually be filled in with something simple. The white oval on Mario's face in the marquee is part of the eyeball and must have gotten moved on accident..pay no attention to it. Also the cabinet is going to be red with blue t-molding. I really like the way the marquee is turning out, I'm just a little concerned that the rainbow-ish letters are going to look dumb with the color scheme I've picked out.
So what do you guys think? I open to any criticism, advice, or questions! Thanks for looking

Mike

The artwork forum isn't as frequented as other forums.  You might want to just ask in your project thread.

I like the layout, style, & placement of everything.

If I had to nitpick, I'd say mario's fingers need defined a little more and the "G" in racing needs to look more like a G and less like a C.
That's about it.

I agree with BadMouth.

Also here's a better original logo for you in case you want it.

And Mario on the kart showing a it more to the right of the Kart.

Hope they help you out.
