Anybody building a gift cab for Christmas 2011?
« on: October 13, 2011, 04:23:10 pm »
As the title states, just wondering if anyone has gift projects in process as we go into the end of the year. I have a feeling I might be making a bartop for my sister's kids... if I get on it right away!
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

In the US, we call those kids nieces and nephews.   ;)

I built a gift cab a while back for my brothers wedding gift. I'm not sure where you live, but weather could play a big factor not to mention holiday shoppers. You're right, you may want to get started soon! The biggest issue you will want to consider is the life of the project. As in, are you giving them a machine that you will have to maintain till they go to college?

My best friend's son's birthday is next month, and I'd like to build him a mini Pac-Man. If all goes well, it WON'T get pushed back to become a Christmas present!

Ah, I am cheating, using a plug & play TV arcade game.

Should be solid enough to last a while. I see what you mean as far as maintaining the gift, though... I am seriously concerned about how many PCs I want to put in the cabs I have built/will build... in fact my next three "projects" may not have standard computer parts at all  .

A mini Pac is pretty much what I am going for too, yotsuya. But your deadline is closer than mine!  ;D

One of my favorite projects by MarkVP

Didn't know if you seen this. Mark did a great job on a cabinet for his son.
