New cab - how to test monitor?
« on: April 29, 2012, 06:42:24 pm »
I just picked up what seems to be either a Taito Jungle King or Jungle Hunt cab (judging by the green under the paint).  I don't have a game board and I am wondering how I would go about checking the quality of the monitor.  When I plug it in and turn it on I can clearly see that it at least gets power but it just don't have anything to display.  I'm wondering how to check this before I move forward with putting a game board in it or converting to something else.  Any help is appreciated.  This is my first project and I know very little about electronics and/or wiring.  Thanks.

I had kind of guessed this was the route I was going to have to go.  Since this is a Taito cabinet, does it matter what board or model of board I buy or will most work without too much extra work?  And thank you for the reply.

Well is it complete just missing a game board? If you have a jamma harness then any jamma board will work im now sure if jungle hunt was a jamma game or not thpugh it would not me a major undertaking to rewire the cabinet to jamma standard

Edit
I just googles jungle hunt 1982 whew yea thats not jamma, you'll have to convert first

You can crank up the flyback brightness and see if you get raster (white screen). That will at least tell you if the guns are shooting.

How would I know if it's already been converted to JAMMA?  The Control Panel and Marquee have been changed to X-Men so I assume that is what game board they had in it before I bought it.

I know I'm totally new to this but I don't see anywhere on this board next to the monitor where another board would fit in.  Here is a photo I just took inside the back of the cab, what should I be looking for?

Thats your monitor chassis, the red, green, blue, white wirs should run frm there to an edge connector that the game board hools to, just trace your controll panel wireing back to the edge connector and post a pic of that

This is what the CP wires lead to.
