ELO 1545L touch screen not working
« on: June 18, 2008, 04:24:00 pm »
Hi,

I purchased one of the ELO 1545L touchscreens from ebay (USB connection). The lcd works fine, but i can not get the touchscreen to work.

Windows xp does recognize it as an HID-compliant mouse, but no movement. Installing the ELO drivers does not help, though the control panel says everything is working.

There are two wires a black and a red, that i am unable to find any info on. I thought they might just be an extension for a power switch.

Does anyone have any info that may help. I have not found any posts with anyone receiving a bad display, but i guess there's always a first.

Thank you

Are you trying to use it as a second monitor?  I had to disable the main and make the ELO the only screen for the TS to work properly.

Hi,

I think I read your thread. I was trying it in a dual monitor mode, but then switched to single monitor and have since tried it on a different computer, still no success.

Do you know what the two wires, red and black are for? I can not find any info on them.

I think they are for the speakers as the screen has built in volume controls.  Are you using the latest ELO drivers from their website?

yes, i am using the latest, but even without drivers. there should be some built in support with xp.

thanks for your help

Edit: I'm unfamiliar with how these work. does it have to be mounted in a bezel before it will work? I'm just testing it as is without a bezel.

I had the same problem with one that I bought from that same company. One of the transducer wires was broken where it is epoxied to the touchscreen overlay. I emailed them and they sent a replacement immediately.

The red and black wires are for a speaker.

They sent another one that works fine.

I don't see any outward damage to the one that doesn't work. it would be nice if it could be fixed.

Does anyone have any ideas?

the one that does not work still does not work.

With the drivers installed, it says it's connected and working. Just no response when touching it.

That generally means that the touchscreen micro-controller is working but the overlay screen itself is not. (the part you touch)

As mentioned already, could be a broken wire that's embeded in the screen border or bad transducer.

I have been playing around with the monitor.

if i take rubbing alchohol and rub it on the back of the one transducer on the bottom right. the touch screen works, until the alcohol evaporates. it won't work if i put too much on, until some evaporates.

does this mean it is repairable? I don't see any of the main wires broken. They look connected to the transducer ok.

it would be nice as the screen is a little cleaner than the fully working model. taking the glass off to clean the working one worry's me.

if u have a damaged connection , could try conductive paint .

the panel removal trick is to use dental floss .  it will cut through the foam adhesive .

sure better than breaking the panel ( which i , being ignorant ,  did on the 1st one     )

it could be a bad connection, it's so small i can't see it.

i will try the conductive paint.

sorry to bring this back from the dead but I just bought one of these and although the touchscreen works fine, the monitor is giving off a bunch of static or horizontal lines that look like interference.  When I change the contract and colors it changes the pattern of lines a bit.  Anyone have this type of experience?  I've changed resolution and refresh rate and tried on 3 other computers with same result.  Does anyone have a specific type of power adaptor for this monitor, or do you all just have a regular black power cable that monitors usually have.

thanks
Jason
