MK4 monitor problem (SOLVED)
« on: June 20, 2011, 09:44:24 pm »
I have an MK4 machine with the original wells gardner k7401 monitor and one day i turned on the machine and the picture was wavy. After a little while of being on the screen started the jump and flicker. I even expireanced the picture going blurry and refocusing once of twice. I thought it was a cap problem so I ordered a cap kit and brought the chassis board and neck board to the local repair shop. They plugged it into one of their arcades and it worked fine. I pulled the power supply out of my KI2 machine and put it in the MK4 machine to see if that was the issue and it still did the same thing. Im worried that the actual monitor is bad. Is there anything else i can check? what normally causes this? Here is a video of my MK4 issue. The video is shot with an awful cell phone camera so the quality is awful.  In the video the picture isnt clear but it is in real life. the only thing its doing is the flickering or jumping or whatever word describes this behavior. Check it out.

ok so im thinking of buying a 24.8 inch makvision monitor to replace the 25 inch Wells Gardner original monitor that came in MK4.  Has anyone used this monitor? What kind of problems am I to expect when trying to mount the monitor? should it fit like the original? also does anyone have any reviews on it. It seems to be one of the last crt arcade monitors to still be made. Im not using this for a mame box so i dont care that its analog.

http://www.happcontrols.com/monitors/49305600.htm this it the monitor.

also id rather not order it from happ because they rape you in shipping cost. where is the best place to purchase this monitor?  thanks all!

so I took the deflection board out of KI2 and put it in MK4 and it worked! and the MK4 deflection board works in KI2..... This makes no sense to me... So far my KI2 deflection board works with every monitor i plug it into  except the one its designed for.. and the MK4 monitor works with other deflection boards.. any idea? For the time being i just switched them and blth arcades work fine, but i still wanna know what the hell happened lol

so to finally be done with this problem feels awesome. Shortly after i posted this, the problems started happening in KI2 with this deflection board. I sent it to a guy who said he will install a cap kit and check it out and replace whats broken. I sent it to him and he sent it back saying he did the cap kit and everything works great. I plugged it in and the problem wasnt fixed at all. I do know for sure he did the cap kit because i marked all my caps because i was going to replace them myself and i didnt want to replace the same one twice. I then found that if i set the focus on the flyback to make the screen very blurry then the screen stops jumping. I figured that the flyback might just be bad. I then found a capacitor right next to the flyback that still had my mark on it. It was the only one he didnt change. I changed it myself and problem solved! works great! hope this helps anyone that might be having the same issue.
