Painting- mask T-molding slot?
« on: June 17, 2011, 08:59:05 am »
Stupid question, sorry- before I prime & paint my old Ms Pac Cab, I want to mask off the t-molding slots, right, so paint won't get in them? Or is it the kind of thing where I want some to get in there to make the fit tighter for the new molding?
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

I wouldn't bother masking.  I wouldn't purposefully put paint in the slot, either, but I do prefer the priming/paint to continue around the board edge, just for continuity's sake.  The edge is going to be covered by the t-molding anyway, so it doesn't have to be pretty, it just needs to be complete.

Thanks for the response! I started with a mask but the tape was not sticking well anyway, so I think I will lose it for the remainder of my coats.

I have done both and recommend using masking tape.  Alternativley you can paint first and then cut your T-moulding groove later
Galaga... Was there any other game?

i repaint cabs all the time and unless u have severe drip and are super sloppy, it doesnt need to be taped. even if u have a bad spot, a razor/nail/anything small and sharp will clear it out
