Jumbo Skill Crane - help
« on: July 06, 2011, 12:51:30 pm »
Hi All.

I've been around for a long time and I have had a MAME machine for about 13 years now!
Anyway, I bought a JUMBO SKILL CRANE from ebay - drove 3 hours to get it from a store location.
WATCHED IT WORK at the sire before I paid.  Put it in a rental van, drove it home.
And the next day, it doesn't work.

Therefore, it's sat it my garage for 3 years...
I'm finally over it and want to get it going again, but before I get into too many details about what it doesn't do...well OK if you put a coin in, an LED on 1 of the 2 boards blinks, but nothing else does anything.
Does ANYONE have one of these that could offer help?
I'm in the Perry, OH area.

This is one that has a forward button (one shot at it) and a RIGHT button (one shot at it).

Thanks in advance,
jjcousin

i'd have to say, if it worked before, but it does not now after it had been transported i would check:

fuses... sometimes the banging can cause one to open. test them with a meter. sometimes they look fine, but have broke open down near the end where you can't see.

plugs... sometimes wire harness plugs can get jostled loose. unplug each one and plug it back in again. that way you know they have a good connection

ROM chips... sometimes they can creep out of the socket and get a bad connection. push them down, if they "crunch" or "creak" the are loose... a push is all they need.

other than that, maybe you have a bad ROM chip. if you turn it on does it behave the same each time or is it being "random" or is it just plain old broke. either way, you will need to source a replacement and re-write the information to it. (not easy but doable) or find a good one (or set if the case be)

do you have an instruction/schematic manual for it? it should show maybe what the issue is via those LED lights that are blinking.
