Hantarex Polo 25
« on: June 27, 2011, 10:56:10 am »
Hi

I have just started modifying an old cabinet I bought, this is the first time I have done anything like this.  I am hoping someone can help.

The polo was installed in a golden tee fore 2005 cab, it worked for that game with the jamma connection, the setup was slightly out of line and had a blank area of about 2 inches on the left and 1 inch at the top, but i think this was just the H/V Pos.  I cannot test this because i trashed the jamma harness trying to remove it (I didnt think I would need it again)  I can put the Polo into Test mode to see the white vertical lines and they display perfectly and fill the entire screen.

I have bought an ArcadeVGA and a Video Amplifier from Ultimarc and I connected it up to the Polo 25 in the cab, I had to combine the H-sync and V-sync into the Video Amplifier but the other end (That plugs into the monitor) they are separated out.  I have installed the driver from the CD provided, and selected Standard monitor in the tri sync application.

This is where my problems began.

When I first restarted with the Arcade monitor connected I had 2 pictures rolling vertically and horizontally.  I was able to stabilise it a little, enough to use the icon to switch the resolution to 640x288.  This gave me 1 picture that rolls horizontally but is slightly ghosted (like 2 images but they are slightly off set from each other), I seem unable to stop the rolling, I can slow it down to a crawl where it will move a few mm per sec but it still moves.
When I get it to this stage and try to run a mame game, no matter what I run it starts rolling and in some games is slanted, I can stabilize this to the same as in windows (Still moves slightly, can not remove the slant fully) but exiting the game means repeating the process again.

I am sure theres something either wrong with the monitor or wrong with me.... no idea which tho....  I cant see how just keep playing with the controls will stabilise the image in all resolutions as I seem to have to tweak it alot between games.

I also appear to have a pin cushion effect which I cant remove (None of the controls on the remote board seem to help with pin cushion) and when I have the almost stable picture tapping the remote board can destabilise it which means a dry-joint?  How to I diagnose a dry joint if this is the case (Sorry for my ignorance, I looked this up early and didnt find anything that made sense to me)

Try 320x244 (240) via switchres/quickres.

I tried 320x240 and some of the other 320x... options.

I was able to get closer to stabilising the vertical rolling however the ghosting is still there, it also appears to shake from side to side rapidly.

Just to update:

I found a dry joint on the remote board (based on a picture posted in another post) so I resoldered this.

- I can now get a stable picture at 640x288 and even 640x480, great... Well not so because I can only get a stable picture when the image is static, so say in windows I get the image correct, then click Start the image starts rolling again.

-When stabilising the image I get about 6 or so vertical lines of differing colours and varying lengths, they seem to grow and shrink with the rolling of the image.

- If I start mame, the games roll, I can stop this but the images at those resolutions are still ghosted and "vibrate" from side to side.

- I also dont know if this is normal, but I found the screen blurry, like the screen you get in mame when the game isnt 100% emulated correctly is impossible to read the blur is that bad.

Is it worth resoldering all the components on the remote board?  Sorry if these seem like basic issues i aint brill with electronics.

Just to update, the lines are not Vertical they are horizontal, theres 2 sets.  3 on the left and 3 on the right.

I also saw a label on the tube that said Polo 2, however on the chassis it says Polo 25", don't know if this is relevant.

I took the chassis out last night to look for dry joints and couldn't see any, is a CapKit going to help? Wheres the best place to buy these in the UK, or is there a list so I can buy them separately?
