Anyone programmed an iPac on Windows 98?
« on: August 28, 2003, 02:08:15 pm »
I tried programming my iPac/4 using the WinIpac software, but it crashes.

I select SW8 for player 4 and whenever I try to type in a key the program crashes, anyone else had this problem? I'd like to program it to be the escape key.

Might be worth posting this on the Ultimarc board at www.mameworld.net if no-one here can help...

Ok I changed the topic of my original post, I'm at a loss, I was hoping someone can help me.

I did a fresh "typical" install of windows 98se, I installed WinIpac and run it. I select a key to map, it crashes for any key I hit. I don't know what could be a cleaner setup, and its crashing. Has anybody done this successfully, I just can't imagine what else I need to do.

BTW, I do have the ALT jumper set correctly, but its crashing on the setup.

I can load .ipc files just fine, if someone could tell me the format, I'd edit the #'s by hand :)

Thanks.

I seem to remember there is an option where you pick if you have the 2 or 4 player IPAC version - is that setup correctly?

Did you ask the question at the Ultimarc board?  I'm sure Andy if no-one else would see the post and try to help...

If necessary you could search in the IPC file for the keycode which is already programmed for P4 SW8, and replace it with the escape keycode (27).

I have only used WinIPAC in 2k & XP btw :(

I had the same problems (hang). ??? I used the DOS programming utility (in DOS-Box); worked fine. :)

Thanks for the tip, I thought the dos utility only worked for 2 players, but now I see that is has a /2 switch. That should fix me up. Thanks.

I too have the same issue. Winipac will crash when trying to program it.
I've learned to do it manually by pulling up Notepad and then hit Ctrl-Alt-P.

It's a built in text based programming method. Try it, and simply follow the onscreen instructions. It's pretty easy.

Funny, I've never had a problem programming my IPac 2 using the windows utility on Win98.

I'm using ps/2

I was finally able to get it programmed last night using the ipacutil.exe (dos program)

It was a pain because the defaults for the dos program are different then mame defaults, so I had to pretty much reprogram every button.

I couldn't get the ctrl-alt-p method to work either.

it was frustrating but the results are nice.

FYI:  I was using USB on 98.  The error we got while using WinIpac was "run-time error 91"

I got the same runtime error 91, object reference or with variable not set.

I even did fresh install of windows 98 and only installed WiniPac and still had the problem.
