I really dig the N64, but it's not common enough in Australia to often (if ever) come across the finds you guys are coming across...

If you like goldeneye - you should google CSS Golden Eye.  Its much better.

Also, it was in the game Smash TV and I think in the movie , the Running Man  but RoboCop did it first (I think)

Our neighborhood garage sale is this weekend.  Will be going around like I do each year to see what I can find.

I used to have a N64.  Had about 20 games for it.  Zelda's, Mario Kart, Mario 64, Perfect Dark, 007 Goldeneye, Conker's Bad Fur Day, etc.  Sold it for $100 because I needed the cash quick for some school supplies at the time.  I really miss it now-days.   :'(

Of course, last night I see a news story about the resurgence of garage sales in Australia. In the background, I spied an N64 controller...

Had the garage sale this past weekend.  Found a few PS2s.  One wanted $60, another $75.  A third wanted $100 with only five generic games included and necessary parts.

Wow.  I suppose their philosophy is a sucker is born every minute.

The problem is it's generally the parents selling the consoles and not the children and older people don't seem to get that buying tech is a lot like buying a car... the value drops significantly after the very first use.  Any piece of tech thats used and more than a year old has halved in value..... anything older than that is essentially worthless unless it was super expensive to begin with.

I find it's the opposite problem.  Case in point, one of the PS2s (the one for $75) had "Jess" on a piece of masking tape on it.  I'm betting the kid priced it.  Kids have no concept of garage sale pricing.  They want TOP DOLLAR!!!

Well, when I moved out, my parents promptly dumped my Genesis/32X/SegaCD/Power Base Converter and all associated games for $20 at a garage sale and I don't even care to comment on how many thousands of dollars I had wrapped up in that garbage.

I suppose the joke is all that junk fits onto a DVDR I never bother booting up in my $20 Xbox.

The lesson all that has taught me is to promptly dump all my old games as soon as the new hotness systems come out and some sucker still thinks they have value.

I see the problem there.... you are confusing Sega hardware, which didn't have any value when it was brand new... with legitimate gaming hardware.  ;)

That's what I see too.

Seems like they're pricing games from signed MIB games off of Fleabay. Hit one garage sale where the guy wanted $10-20 a piece for his ragetty ass marked up with crayons ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- 2600 games. I'd rather buy a Harmony at those prices.

Maybe it's a regional difference?

The last time I bought gaming hardware at a yard sale I got a dreamcast, in the original box, with 5 or 6 games, two controllers, a couple of vmu units, and the modem accessory for 20 bucks.  That's fairly common in terms of the pricing around here as well.

Likely.  Around here, that happened many years ago.  It seems like one is more likely to get these kind of deals on old hardware, less than a year or so after the owner decides to stop playing with it.  The slower folks are in an area to upgrade to the latest tech, the more likely it will be that deals like these will be showing up in their garage sales at this late time in the machines history.

It's really a roll of dice with how people price things.  Around here (Long Island, NY) I see some people price old hardware/games at junk prices ("video games are such a silly fad, just get it out of here"); other people know what they're selling.  I've seen both types of people at garage sales.

Oh, and the third type who think their original NES Control Deck (still with an inch of dust inside) is "Ultra-Rare" and won't take less than $150.00 for it.

It's not really regional I think...more just who and when.

Two years ago, I would find a few PS2s for under $30 as marked in the exact same garage sale (which I could haggle to $20 and under) with at least a half dozen games.  That same year, some older guy in his 30s was trying to get $75 for an original Xbox with a couple games.  Those kinds of prices aren't even worth your time of trying to haggle.

One guy this year (out of the four PS2s I found) was selling for $25, but only with 2 games of choice.  Others were $60, $75,  and $100.  Nothing of note in those sales either.  Just a controller or two and a couple games.

Maybe next year, though I doubt it.

The only factor here is whether the seller is trying to make money first or second.  If they want profit first, the price is high, if they want to be rid of the stuff first and make a little cash second, it will be cheap.  All yard sales are like that.
