New Here, My Mame cabinet
« on: March 22, 2011, 09:55:39 pm »
I've been thinking about making a mame cabinet for a few years.  Finally I got the motivation and put together one.

I had my old Pentium 4 3Ghz machine running windows XP.  I installed MameUi32 and also Daphne so I can play the dragons lair roms.
I then wanted to see what I could do for the cabinet.  Checking Ebay and Craigslist led me to a place an hour away (Grand Rapids Michigan) that had an old Golden Tee cabinet.

Once I got that I was able to put my computer in, then figure out how to do the X-arcade.
I'm not that good at wood working and stuff, and I also wanted the X-arcade to be removable in case someone wants me to bring my games with me to a party and this works out quite well.

All I think I want now is to find a button for the side of the Golden Tee (Dynamo Cabinet) that fits so I can use that to power my PC off and on.  I have the power wired to a microswitch that I can just reach in through the missing slot for the bill validator and turn it on that way.

I was also happy I was able to make the coin slots work with mame!

I posted my progress on facebook.

Oh wow I have never seen a machine say it takes loonies and toonies, only 1 and 2 dollar coin. And you got that in america!?!?!?!?

I think you should make a control panel that fits with the rest of it, and throw some art up. Even keeping the guts from the x-arcade and making something more fitting would be nice.

Other than that, looks like fun! Gotta get a projector, a couch, and a kegerator down in that basement and it'll be perfect.

Yes, I got that in the U.S. at Epic Electronics and Gaming in Grand Rapids.  Funny thing is that there was some canadian change inside the cabinet cleaning it up, but the coin slots are for US quarters.

I didn't know about making the panels until finding this site.  But I do have to admit I like how the X-arcade works, since you can press player2 start and the coin2 button to exit the game.  Player1 coin and player 1 start will bring up the options.  I just use the trackball to select the games and login to windows.

The basement does need some other items, but I have to deal with the snake next to the cabinet.
