My Mortal Kombat Themed Xbox360 Kabinet
« on: October 09, 2011, 06:54:11 pm »
Here is the project I have been working on, it is my first attempt at building a cab. It all started after the new Mortal Kombat game was released. I got the tournament addition and it had a fight stick that came with it. Between the game being such a return to the original MK titles and me using the fight stick to play I was inspired. I had known there was a community of people who crafted arcade cabinets and so I did research, found BYOAC as well as other reference sites and m project was under way. I decided to pad hack Xbox controllers and install a Xbox360 in it for now. I may add a PC MAME setup at some time in the future. Any questions comments suggestions or criticisms are welcome and wanted. I will update with more pics as I go along.

here are pics of the Kab

Who did you get your buttons from? And will they be lit?

OK snapped some pics of the finished CP inside and out. The inside looks like such a mess, but for a first one I feel like its ok. I'm going to make it modular, so you can remove it if you want from the whole cab. I put on some button vinyl I had printed up from Pongo and also hooked up the power supply to it so I could take some pics of the CP lit up. Let me know what you guys think.

Looking good! I'm a fan of the traditional layout though:

      (HP)    (HK)
           (BL)
      (LP)     (LK)
(RN)

But yours works well for using a 360. I like your artwork alot! Keep up the good work!

Love the blood spatter on the CP.  Also great wiring, reminds me of my own style.  To hell with those perfectly routed cables the over achievers do.

I designed the CP art myself so thanks. And thanks for the wiring compliment. I sat for like 3 hours trying to figure out how I was gonna make all nice and what paths to route and such. After I realized how much time had passed I just dove in and did it.

Dont want to go off topic, and no harm intented to your cabinet, but just using some simple ziptie's can make a big difference already. It just gives a more finished feeling, but thats just me.

Great cab !

no harm done I want criticism and suggestions. This is my first build so I want it all. I thought about the zip tie thing but I cut all the lengths with very little slack so I fell like the zip tie will just pull on my wire connections

Pshhhh, 3ish years down the road and I have never had to mess with my birds nest of wiring under my CP.

Go messy, you have my vote.

Yeah, but if you do have a problem, it will be easier to find the problem.

Cabs looking good. I've wired up cabinets messy and I've wired them up nice with tie downs, wire paths, etc. I would much rather troubleshoot a birds nest where I can easily remove a wire instead of opening up the bundles to get to a wire buried inside of it.

I usually wire mine up nice since it looks better.

The good thing about neat wiring is that if something stops working you'll spend a lot less time trying to track down the problem. I know that when I wired up my first pad hack I was just rushing ahead to get it playable, and it showed.
