I've been thinking about making a table top game (just tossing ideas around) and I was thinking of making the legs fold under the table for transport/storage. However, the only table I know of that does this are those picnic-type tables. I drew up a prototype idea in Sketchup but it strikes me as being somewhat flimsy, eg not very steady. I fiddled around with a few versions but without actually constructing the table (and wasting money, time and lumber) I can't tell if they're solid or not.
Are there existing plans for making a table with folding legs? I Googled around quite a bit and many tables employ either the collapsible picnic table style legs (out of thin metal tubing) or legs that criss-cross to make an X shape (wood).
I thought of a traditional design using carriage bolts that I can remove (which most of my Sketchup designs use in some fashion anyways) but that strikes me as a bit of a hassle having to undo X number of carriage bolts. I'll bet money a table like that is going to be set up once, never to be collapsed. Or be put away one time, never to be used again.
