1. Download new MAME source and hi-score diff.
2. Compile MAME
3. Connect to update torrent & download update set
4. Merge/update/Rebuild ROMs via CMP
5. Audit new set
6. Connect to full torrent to seed

15-20 minutes?   That list would be a weekend project to me.   I almost always encounter errors during the compile (usually always my dumb mistake, but still).   If you can all that without blinking an eye (and I'm sure many of you can), then yeah it's not a big deal.

Compile using MC64 and you shouldn't encounter any issues.  MC64 makes really easy work out of compiling MAME.

A vote on newest versions because there are a lot of update on old games also. For example the shifter displayed in OR, Chase HQ, Pole Position, sound fixes for point blank, working Lethal Enforcers and other gun games reload with lightgun etc.

leapinlew:
Does the newest version of Mame have both fast Ms. Pacman and fast Galaga shoot?

That's exactly what I've used actually.

I've really only compiled anything twice (both MAME) so even with the tutorials, I still encounter hiccups.   Mind you, I am ultimately successful - but just not in 15 minutes.
I'm sure if I did it more often, I'd get better at it.

yeah i use MC64 too, I only upgrade on the full versions, 139, 140 not 139u1, 139u2.  A lot less steps, and not really worth it to get the minor upgrades for the small updates.

hmm.. I cant's say I've seen any real benefits to my updates since I started not too long ago. It had to do more with an obsession of being up to date in case new games were playable.
