How often do you update MAME and/or ROMS

(1/8) > >>

Dervacumen:
I'm still using my .96 ROMS and I've built a few cabinets now.  I upgraded from .83 when I built my first true cabinet.  For me, .96 is fine 'cause it handles what I want and I couldn't discern a difference between MAME and actual arcade hardware at my level of skill anyway.

I just do it after a while when I have the time or feel the need to see what games are now working. Maybe one to four times a year.

It can be a pain...and it is a lot of wasted disk space especially when you have several games that are a couple of gigs and they don't even work. But I like seeing all the added stuff...I find some of it interesting. I must admit that 98% of the games that I am interested in are already added and playable though.

I tend to update every other major update after u1 or u2 has posted as well to get the silly bugs out.   :P

I just updated to the latest version (.141) and snagged a 24g torrent of roms. I figger'd that would be the easiest way to get the most roms that worked. Turns out that kinda backfired. There's soooo much crap you need to sort thru to get at what you want. And some stuff that really should be there and working (STUN Runner, Arabian, Gaplus) don't show up as working. And I've run across more than a few that do show up as good, but fail to load and give me a missing file error.

I still use an "ancient" version (32b.037) for pc monitor use since it was one of the last versions to have a good looking scanline effect. Plus, that has all the old classic roms working that I spend years tracking down.

Its a PITA really....

Dazz:
I update at every keystone release (IE: 140, 141, 142, etc.).  Sometimes I'll update to a update build (IE: 141u1) if there is a game in that release that I'd like to play before the keystone release.
