Board or monitor problem ?

Im a newbie and just bought an old Space Invaders Deluxe with a WG 19'' monitor in it. You seem like a helpful bunch so I decided to post my question. I bought it because I thought it was cool and would be neet to have in my cave. I knew it had problems when I bought it but I thought I could fix it but so far no luck. The picture comes on when the machine is first fired up and the picture stays on for about 30-50 seconds then the picture blinks off for about 30 seconds then comes back on for a second or two then back off for another 30-40 secondes or so then on again for another second or two etc. It plays blind but no picture. I was going to bring the monitor chassi to a tv repair guy but Im not sure if its a monitor problem or the chip board. Any ideas ?

difficult call on this fault,I had an invaders do a similar thing but the sounds went funny and the picture cut out-that was down to a z80
it could be just a bad edge connector,space invaders are notorious for this problem
i would suggest taking off the back door and fire up the machine,then manipulate the connectors on the board-there are three connectors

Mine did something like that,the lopt (flyback) had cold solder joints.Pretty much most of them were disconnected from the board and very easy to spot.Which was one good thing,or which ever way you look at it!
But dont go anywhere near the flyback,until you know how to safely remove it from the tube.Its not difficult,but read up a little before you go jumping in.The tube contains a lethal charge,even after shut down.

molex connectors are notorious for developing loose connections.
resolder all questionable connections on the monitor pcb.
with the monitor's age , changing all the 'lytic caps is recommended.

Resolder any cracked solder joints on the boards first. Replacing *all* electrolytic caps should be done next for proper performance.
