quieting crt whine

Can the high pitched whine from a crt be minimized? Where does it actually originate from?

Your ears are too sensitive, expose yourself to loud music for extended periods of time.  ;)
I can hear a high pitch buzzing/whining from many electronic devices that everyone else in my family can't seem to hear.

As for your questions, I have no idea. Sorry.

the horizontal output stage is the typical offender .
"singing" components may be located with a gentle nudge with an insulated probe while listening for any change
in sound . installing, wedges, shims, glue to the offending part  MIGHT provide a cure.

using NTSC , the operative frequency is 15.734Khz.
this is within the human auditory range .  scan freqs above 20Khz are unheard.

as men age, the high end reception drops off considerably.
as such, i am no longer able to hear a 15Khz tone .

Some monitors, like the WG7203 have a heavy guage wire which makes a couple of turns around part of the FBT.  I found that this sometimes is the source of a high pitched squeal.  This "noise" can be reduced or eliminated by repositioning the wire coils with an insulated screwdriver.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice.....there is!!

My wife notices the sound much more than I do. I suspect I already have a bit of frequency loss due to the previously suggested application of loud noises in my earlier years.

I'll have to poke around in there with something non-conductive and see what I can find. I suppose next will be looking for some material to dampen the noise with. Maybe I can pack in some kind of acoustic insulation around the entire chassis.

caution, insulation will likely interfere with ventilation.

and no surprise the XYL is more sensitive to the sound.

I'll keep the ventilation in mind if I do anything.

It depends on the type of sound....
