Blitz '99 Showcase to MAME Conversion
« on: March 21, 2010, 06:45:09 pm »
Hey everyone,

I have acquired a NFL Blitz '99 showcase cabinet. The game was pulled and I bought it cheap :)

I want to convert this beast to a 2 player street fighter style cab. I think it will be awesome once its finished.

The monitor it came with is a medium res monitor 39"... I am going to replace this with a 32" CRT HDTV that I have sitting around. Its a nice TV, has VGA input and supports 640x480 thru VGA.

Was thinking about basing it off a console (xbox or dreamcast) but I have a nice computer I hardly use that will run SF4 smooth as butter. So I think I am going to go that route.

Still trying to gather funds to start buying parts. It wont be long now.

Ive attached some pics of the cab in my garage right now. Its gonna need new paint and some bondo work to get it looking nice.

Looking forward to start on this project. Hope you guys will like it when its done. I'm open to any ideas you guys may have that would make it great.

One thing I'm still debating is the side art. Its so huge that sideart is going to break the bank. I might have to find an alternative to actual sideart like a door poster or something to that effect.

Lots of room on the control panel to work with. I am 95% sure its going to be a 2 player instead of 4. I really like the look of simple control panels. Still debating on a trackball as well.

Let me know if you guys have any thought or tips. Thanks.

-Spencer

Neat looking showcase cabinet, never seen one of those before and 39" too!  I almost picked up a Tekken 4 showcase last Friday which I found on craiglist for $75.  Unfortunately I couldn't go see it myself but I did send a good friend of mine who is as picky as me when it comes to stuff and he said the cabinet was in pretty decent shape and nothing a little elbow grease can't fix or restore.  Bad news was it was just too big to fit in the pick up and another problem is it probably wouldn't fit down my basement :(  Good luck on your project and can't wait to see more pics.
