Problems running CHD games on my high end pc...
« on: August 07, 2010, 11:35:17 pm »
I have:
Intel Core 2 2.2Ghz
3 GB of Ram
NVIDIA GTS 250 video card

When I play Blitz and some other games my sound and/or video is choppy... more noticeably my sound, it gets real echoy.  My rom sets and CHD's are .139, but I'm using MAME32 138, is it the differences in rom/mame versions which cause the choppyness, or is it that my PC isn't good enough, or that some particular CHD games don't work properly?

I think that there is problems with Blitz.  How does it play Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2?

3d intence games like Blitz and Gauntlet legends are the hardest to run. Mame is almost all Processor powered so You'll need at least 4Ghz to run those decently.

Get a 3.2 GHZ P4 and a new heat sink and OC it to 4.  60 bucks and youre in business.

This isn't really a high-end PC, it's more mid-range by current standards.

64-bit build on a 64-bit version of Windows will give you the best results, but you're still looking to need in the 3.5ghz - 4ghz C2D region for these.

Ignore the other poster, a P4 clocked to even 4ghz won't cut it, and will only give you similar, if not significantly worse performance than you already have (these drivers make use of multiple cores, and a C2D gives much better performance per mhz than a P4 anyway, roughly twice as fast in some cases)
