Anyone ever mount a wells 9800 in a mortal kombat cab?
« on: July 30, 2010, 11:33:22 am »
Hey everyone, like the title says, has anyone ever mounted a wells gardner 9800 in a mortal kombat cab? Right now there is a wells25k7100 series, which is of course a 25" monitor, was looking to try and squeeze the 27 in" in there?

Also does the 9800 have the same resolutions issues as an older monitor? (AKA comprimising cutting a small section off older games/black boarders on most games?)  I'm wondering if using a tri sync if you can get a better "arcade" experience without constantly adjusting v-size?  (also i have most resolutions set up via avres and using an acradevga 3000)  Just seems like there is a compermise to either sticking to golden age style games (pacman, donkey kong) or either to capcom/fighter style (street fighter, simpsons, ect) before slightly adjusting v-size to either squish the screen down a little more so it doesn't cut the high score off or adjusting it to make street fighter games take up the full screen.  I found a happy medium so I don't have to adjust, but if you can use 31hz mode and other trickery with the 9800 i'm seriously considering modifying my cab/purchasing this monitor?  Would be nice to play street fighter 4 as well, since it doesn't look very good on a 25k7100 series....

I crammed a KT-2914F ("Betson Multisync", also a 27" monitor) into my MK2.  It fits, but the mounting brackets have to be modified (I simply fabricated new ones so I could go back to a 25" if I ever need to), and you'll probably have to angle the monitor in to make the frame of the monitor clear some trim pieces.  The cabinet looks pretty good with a bigger monitor.  It has an "in your face" feeling, similar to a Candy, that MK and other Midway games often benefit from.

Thanks for the quick reply! Did you ever have the old monitor hooked up in your mk2 cab running mame?  Is it a night and day difference with the tri-sync, or do you still have "some" resolution irritations? (minus vert. monitor game of course)?

Mine didn't even come with the original monitor, so no.  I also have never run MAME on it, so I definitely can't answer those questions.
