Atari Consolette
« on: July 02, 2010, 04:41:47 pm »
I've been wanting to make a 'desktop pong' thang for a while, but didn't have an idea of how it should look. I'd already procured a small B&W TV and an Interstate 1104 pong:

A chance encounter with KLOV led to the discovery of the Atari Consolette. There's hardly any info about this cab online - all I could find out is that it's probably European only, maybe French. The arcadeflyers site had these images:

I also found these pics from an old eBay auction:

I needed something a bit smaller, plus the original Consolette has a vertical screen and my TV is horizontal. I knew this project wouldn't be 100% accurate to the original, but I kept the design as close as I could to the original. Here's my MDF workout:

Onto the artwork: Given the French origins of the original (please correct me if this is B-S!!!) I employed the skills of my wife, who's currently learning French. I wasn't too concerned with the accuracy of translation, but this is what I put together for the CPO:

Waiting for the self-adhesive vinyl artwork to be delivered, then it's on to assembly.

******* If anyone has any other info on the Atari Consolette, please get in touch. I can't believe the lack of info online considering it's an Atari (manufactured, not prototype) product ********

See you soon for assembly and artwork application :)

Hi :)

I'm new here and for my first post i'll give you my "french" help ;)
So for your artwork the best french translation must be "1 joueur - Start " and " 2 joueurs - Start " cause "Le joueur 1 - controleur" will make a bit robot translation ;)

Neat find! From the eBay pics, I wonder what's with the dial set to "cavity*"... Sounds invasive.

Edit: Googled it... didn't realize it was for breakout play modes (Double breakout, cavity breakout, progressive breakout).

A goal; like for Air Hockey?

BTW, this is a neat little project.

The flyer looks more like a picture from a knitting pattern!

Yeah, nice project. I'll be keeping my eye on this one.

Unfortunately not much progress here. Received the self-adhesive vinyl artwork, but decided to apply it after a couple of beers. Idiot. Now waiting for another set to arrive. It seemed like a good idea at the time, as do most ideas under the influence of beer.
