Mounting Marquees

Hi guys,

Am interested to see how some of you have mounted your marquees.

My friend and I are building a cab each (our first) and are getting towards the middle stages of the build.

Here is what our build looks like currently mocked up. It is a Midway cabinet clone.



My concern is that the speaker panel will be butting up to the perspex and therefore that bottom 12mm (depth of MDF) part of the marquee wont be lit up from the backlights due to the shadow of the speaker panel. I have considered chamfering that particular end of the speaker panel but am wondering if there is a simmpler way.

Am i being pedantic?

Usually the marquee is lit only from the open space.   The edge of the speaker panel and the top of the cab are covered by the marquee holder on the outside so this area is not lit up.   Marquees usually have only background color in these areas so no pattern is covered by the marquee holder.

What BobA said.  You are going to have some sort of retainer that will hide the edge of the speaker panel anyway.  I would recommend getting some window molding from lowes or home depot.  You can get long pieces that are F shaped and two thin pieces (.1" I think(damn imperial measures)) of plexi will fit into perfectly.

Alternatively, I am going to be mounting my marquee with only the t-molding and some woodworking-fu.  I plan on doing this in the next day or two and will post some pictures in my project thread.

I did it the same way justinjstark did, but with a whole lot more hustle... (more then was necessary I now realize). It's easy, cheap, and you don't need any kind of marquee retainer other then your MDF and T-molding which you already have lying around.
