Same site that I think he was at (and that I pulled up).  I think he needs to install the chipset driver first, then go with the graphics driver.

92greenyyj, from that link, download the file that says:

Intel 845G/GV Chipset Support for Windows 2000/XP

Install/run it.  Reboot, then try the graphics driver again.  We'll see if that did it.

tooooooooooooo many problems installing tyni xp or any modified version of xp, ill say, if you got a brand new sealed version of xp , install that , i recomend a brand new installation, once installed , go to windows update and it will automaticly download your drivers, ill pm yuo an original serial so you can install that and stop having so much trouble. f u c k modified versions ox windows, use only originals....

I got XP working fine a few days ago. Thats no longer an issue, but I appreciate the help.
On that note I did run the updates when the bubble prompted me too, but it was all security updates and a few XP OS updates. i didn't see a single driver update in the list.

You'll rarely see a driver update.  The one thing to do though is look at the "Hardware, Optional" button and see what's there.  I'd bet it doesn't show a driver, but who knows?

Usually the only thing the bubble updates are for is critical updates. You need to go to the update page and look on the left side of the screen under software or hardware.

ok. Ran the chipset update. rebooted. everything seemed fine. MAME still wouldn't launch. So I downloaded MAME .116. couldn't get it to launch thru the command line. tried running thru MALA .104 after screwing with that for 10 minutes it finally launched MAME .116 to the same errors I was getting on .137. downloaded the graphics driver update again, ran and rebooted. same thing. signal not supported. rebooting in safe mode now to remove the drivers again.

I'm thinking maybe I should go get a PCI graphics card???

I think you're going to have to just slap a PCI card in there and go with that.  You should be able to find one very cheaply.  I wouldn't pay more than $10 or so.

Post a message in B/S/T and see if someone will send you one for shipping.

I wouldn't buy anything new for that PC.  Odds are that someone will get you a great deal.  You'll probably struggle to find a PCI card in a retail store.  If you find one, it's gonna be much higher priced than a deal someone can cut for you.

Same goes for RAM.  Don't buy it new if at all possible.

I've been to Frys. I just think that they'll charge you for something that a lot of us here have laying in a bag somewhere of old pc stuff. Seriously, anyone who has one should give it to you for a couple bucks at the most. PCI has been passed by AGP and then PCI-E. Nobody is keeping one for a special project, I hope!

:-)

ok, new problem. Now I'm stuck in an endless loop and can't log into my computer! I had to do a restart. Now when it starts up I get a pop up window that says: "This copy of windows must be activated before you can log on. Do you want to activate Windows now?" I click yes. it loads the background and the big Windows product activation window. The window says "Windows is already activated. Click OK to exit." nothing else there. so I click OK. it takes me back to the log in screen. I click my user and get the same message and the cycle repeats. I tried booting in safe mode and logging in as both admin and user but that didn't work either. Wouldn't let me past the log in screen. Said the product can't be activated in safe mode. WTH??? Any suggestions?
